Nonprofits, charities and churches are the government.

The great thing about taking care of society through non-profits, as opposed to having good government that does good work, is that it means that everything can reflect the priorities of the wealthy, rather than the majority? When rich people don't like a particular cause, like prenatal care for minority women, they can defund it and leave them hanging. When rich people think that liberal arts education or music in schools is just more than lowlifes deserve, they can just cut back their giving and make those 'luxuries' for us regular folks go away. Turning over so many things that matter to private concerns, administered through charities (dont' care if they are churches or secular actually) has been just another way that we have let the rich eat our lunches.
