Fran Drescher's 'Happily Divorced' Close To TV Land Pickup

Art imitating life imitating art. Or something like that.

Fran Drescher and collaborator/ex-husband Peter Marc Jacobsen are in negotiations with TV Land, and the two sides are close to nailing down a new comedy series for Drescher to star in, according to Deadline.

The show, which would be called "Happily Divorced," would be a fictionalized version of Drescher's real life: a woman finds out her husband is gay, then tries to date again and balance her relationships. It's something she and Jacobsen know well.

High school sweethearts and married in 1978, Drescher and Jacobsen stayed together for 21 years, a time that included their hit show, "The Nanny." Divorced in 1999, Jacobsen later came out to Drescher, and together they've fought for gay rights and even set each other up with men.

Fran and Marc’s continued relationship outside of marriage is refreshing. It’s wonderful to hear that despite not being able to live as husband and wife, they maintain a loving friendship and working relationship. This just goes to show that you can indeed build a great life postdivorce; make a difference, and like your former spouse! What an incredibly inspiring and uplifting message.

I remember when the actress who played Yetta was Mary Tyler Moore's neighbor on "The Dick VanDyke" show. That was a good show, too.

Lots of luck with new show! They've had their life difficulties despite great success and deserve the best. I still laugh with "The Nanny" whenever I catch it on the tube.

Excuse my typos in my previous post. HP is making it seem like he came out after the divorce, which is not what they said on this seasons Oprah show. Their divorce was the eventual result of him coming out of the closet.

On this season of Oprah, she said that her husband came out of the closet while they were still married. HP is making it seem it was after the fact. She also said it took a long time for them to get to this point of being post-Divorce friends.

How can you be married for 21 years and not know your spouse is gay.

Ask Arianna Huffington (yes, the one that started this website) about that. She was married to a man for years and ran for governor of California as a Republican, lost the election, got divorced from Arianna and came out of the closet. Good times.

I wasn't married for 21 years, but I can answer that question. If they don't acknowledge it, if they don't act on it, then how would you know? Mine hid how he felt for years, and it didn't come out until he started doing meth. He became nasty, cruel and it was pretty awful. They explain away the small things that may be considered hints, and you want to believe it because it's tough to believe that you could love someone who could keep such a secret, or that they don't really love you, or that it's even happening. It's a pain that I can't explain, and I don't think anyone can really understand it unless you've been in that situation. It's a secret no one should keep, because it's not fair to anyone involved. Whether it's the possibility of being exposed to HIV, or the fact that you don't get a chance to find someone who may really love you, or you lose out on what you wanted with a person you love, such as children (or more children, in my case) or anything else, it's not fair and it's something that needs to be told sooner rather than later.

Sorry to hear that, well you still have life, and with blessings I wish for you to find someone to bring that love you deserve, same for your ex to.
