Bahrain Protester Shot

A shocking video of the point-blank shooting of a protester has emerged from Bahrain.

For over a month, protests have erupted in the Gulf nation as anti-government protesters flocked to the capital city of Manama's Pearl Square. In the last few days, events have become increasingly bloody, with Saudi Arabia sending troops to the country on Monday, one of whom was shot to death. Bahraini Shi'ites called the Saudi intervention an act of "war," and subsequently, Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa declared a state of emergency.

At that time, Nabeel Hameed, a neurosurgeon at Manama's biggest hospital, reported that protesters "were all shot from close range," adding that forces "do shoot to kill."

On Wednesday, military and security forces launched a "large-scale assault" on protesters in which at least 5 people have been killed. Protester Hamid Zuher told the AP:

"They fired tear gas and then opened fire. We lifted our arms and started saying 'Peaceful, Peaceful.' Then we had to run away."

The following video appears to show an unarmed man walking up to military forces, who shoot him at point blank range, apparently with rubber bullets.

WARNING: Graphic video. May not be appropriate for all audiences.

UPDATE: This post originally stated that the protester was killed in the shooting. There is no evidence that the protester in the video has died from his wounds.

Hello

I am an Expat on this lovely island and I would like to, simply put, get some facts right (with eveidence) on the above report. The sensational video makes things look skewed.

1) First of all, this did not take place on Wed, after the State of Emergency was declared. This took place on 13th Sunday, when the extreme element broke ranks with the Pearl group and decided to block and sabotage the Financial District (seen in the background)

2) The Riot Police and Government had warned everyone to return to the Pearl. This is NOT the Pearl (aka Martyrs Square - you have the City Centre Mall in the bg)

3) The Riot Police maintained their positions protecting the mentioned area and office goers there until provoked.

4) This video will make everyone on this website think again. Please check 24s onwards. Our hero is doing the Hakka at the positioned cops. What do you expect them to do in a situation like this? Are they deliberately chasing "peaceful" demonstrators here? NO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxS-Sn2RV1o

5) This lad is not dead and rubber bullets were used. He ended up with a fracture in the skull. did he ask for it? YES.

6) The actual incident : http://www.gulf-daily-news.com/ArchiveNewsDetails.aspx?date=03/14/2011&storyid=301762

7) Would the US or UK tolerate (6) on Wall Street or the canary Wharf?

Cheers

Additionally, Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed serious concern over events in Bahrain on Tuesday, saying, "We do not want another Karbala in the region. Our Shia brothers remember clearly what happened in Karbala, so do we."

Saudi Arabia is actively funding and conducting a covert counter revolution effort in several arab nations where the population is asking for democracy, especially Bahrain, but also Yaman...Algeria and won't surprise if they passively support Qaddafi despite their past animosity with them. They don't want democracies to flourish in the mideast cause that will raise the eyebrows of their own population. The Saudi regime is nicknames by many in the Arab world as the snake's head! Some influential western powers are definitely in coersion !

well they supported, and still do support Mubarak.
and in case any of you guys forgot, Ben Ali is over there somewhere in Jeddah or Riyadh.

Here is some feedback which you may or may not want to consider from the ground.
1 - the protesters blocked roads and would not have been tolerated to do so anywhere in the world
2 - the Saudi military is here to protect national monuments and treasures as well as documents, as you know those things were destroyed in both Eygpt and Iraq's uprisings. They have NO INTERACTION with Bahrainis and have been asked not to even speak with them.
3 - How do you reason with when a man is coming into a battle to die? When dying in been glorified more than life? Two of the protesters who were killed charged past a row of police.
4 - and finally the protesters have weapons.
We are not egypt, we are not tunisia, some of us want reform and our movement was highjacked by the extremests who made our country unsafe. We also want the monarchy because our economy depends on $6 bio from Saudi Arabia in oil refinary and cheap energy.

answers to each point:
1) civil disobedience means blocking roads as long as it's peaceful...otherwise the Egypt revolution was wrong because Liberation square was the heart of traffic in Cairo.
2) what national monuments? how old is Bahrain? 30? 40?years? do you have pyramids I had never heard of? we saw the footage of the saudis attacking protestors.
3) because the police was shooting at them indiscriminately and the protestors were facing a death squad so in the heat of the moments they charged.
4) we know from history that many repressive regimes slip their elements to do anarchy to give them excuse to crush the protestors..happened in Egypt the first few days...in Jordan in the 70s against palestinians...in Iraq against Sunni's by god knows who doing these indiscriminate crazy suicide attacks and blaming the sunnis/alqaida so the government has excuse to give nothing to sunnis...that's a stupid old game. and even if some protestors have weapons..that doesn't mean all do or should be crushed.
"we are not egypt and not tunisia"? that's what Mubarak said that he's not Tunisia and that's what qaddafi is saying now...believe me :all arab countries are egypt and tunisia and will have the same revelutions because injustice and massive theft/corruption is not sustainable...maybe not this year or next year but surely within 5-10 years all arab countries from gulf to ocean.

Will not watch the video, but why do you consider this shocking?

IN SAN FRANCISCO THEY HAVE A CASE WHERE POLICE SHOT A MAN IN A WHEELCHAIR IN THE BACK THREE TIMES WITH REAL BULLETS AT POINT BLANK RANGE. WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE ABOUT THAT. THIS GUY IN BAHRAIN WASNT EVEN SHOT WITH REAL BULLETS--HE WAS SHOT WITH RUBBER ONES. SUCH HYPOCRISY IN AMERICA AGAIN. STOP CRITICIZING OTHER COUNTRIES AND LOOK AT YOUR OWN BEHAVIOR

Have you ever been pulled over by police for a traffic violation? Try to get out of the car and see if they dont shoot you with a real bullet.

The multi-national corporations and right wingers in the USA have so destroyed the sovereignty of the USA, melting it into the "free market" world community, that every significant episode around the world affects the United States also. It doesn't matter if you don't like that, or don't believe it, it is what it is. Some folks used to think the world was flat, too, and they insisted on it, and they insulted those who thought otherwise. Time to expand your horizons, friend.
