Steve Martin Shoplifts A Ham On Letterman (VIDEO)

Steve Martin Letterman Ham

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/17/11 11:37 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:40 PM ET

On Wednesday night's "Late Show," the great Steve Martin hammed it up in more ways than one -- revealing to David Letterman's audience that he recently got in some trouble for "stealing" a pork product.

When Letterman first noticed what looked like a police ankle bracelet on Martin's leg, he allowed him to come up with a pretty good excuse, that it was the latest Hollywood trend.

But soon after, Letterman whipped out a security tape with some pretty convincing footage of Martin using his pants to smuggle a glazed ham out of a New York deli.

Watch the full bit below, and click here to see Alec Baldwin walk out of Dave's studio once he hears Martin is the guest.

Nothing. It's a gag carried over from SNL where they are in competition for number of times hosting the show.

When the jarring commercials interrupt me I quickly turn the sound off....close my eyes....and mediate or say a prayer....do deep breathing...count my blessings....think of good stuff....and do not pollute my cranium with floor polish, toys, food, napkins, et al! Then I'll turn it on when the news comes on.

Try it!

Since I abandoned cable, and only get a couple channels (and have to turn the antenna each time) I can no longer do that. And i thought quitting smoking was hard!!!!

I love Steve Martin. His humor is just good spirited and respectful. On Twitter and on his Letterman appearances, I can't help but feel like me and everyone else is in on the jokes. His enthusiasm for Twitter/making people laugh comes through on Twitter. He's one of my favorite people in the world.

The funniest thing I ever saw was a session Steve Martin did many years ago on Johnny Carson called "Flydini" It can still be seen by googling it . If you watch it, watch after Steve Martin leaves the stage. He rturns and does a little more.

Like so many career narcissists, David Letterman has a near supernatural ability to render anything in his vicinity simultaneously boring and despicable. Even in his weakest moments, he has the most amazing power to instantly transform anything he touches into an annoyance. There's no doubt that even food becomes revolting in his presence... he could end America's obesity epidemic merely by glancing at thousand refrigerators a day.

"despicable" really? Sounds as if you are on a rant of hyperbolic vomiting...
02:01 AM on 03/18/2011
The geometry of that would be interesting to see, but I'm afraid it's beyond my abilities. Ask one of the emaciated starlets who routinely appear on Letterman. I imagine virtually any of them would be a potential gold medalist in Olympic Hyperbolic Vomiting, should such an event ever be established.

You failed to state why you hate him, or do you just hate people who are on Television?
02:03 AM on 03/18/2011
I've spent a minute or two trying to come up a word that would be to "smug" what "firefly" is to "nuclear armageddon," and damn if I haven't failed. Sorry to let you down... I really did try my best.

If you love Conan so much you might want to thank Dave for influencing his entire career as a talk show host. Same goes for Fallon and especially Kimmel, who would tell you for hours upon hours how Letterman is the only late night guy who ever mattered.
