Gisele Digitally Covered Up For Dubai H&M Ads (PHOTOS)

Gisele's spring campaign for H&M was apparently too racy for the Middle Eastern market, La Moda Dubai points out.

The supermodel's upper body was digitally covered up in the advertisements running in Dubai.

It's not the first (nor probably the last) time promotional pics have been adjusted to suit a non-Western audience. Mariah Carey was given a modesty makeover last fall, courtesy of Saudi Arabia and Photoshop.

Take a look at Gisele: American version and Gisele: Dubai version and head over to Fashionista for more side-by-side comparisons.

Hmm..destroyed the whole look of the outfit! Dubai is such a study of contrast, on one hand they are the flashiest countries in the world, on the other hand, wear a TANK TOP under this outfit!! But I guess have to respect their culture!

I'm sorry, but that's one NASTY looking jumpsuit. Also, I think it would look better if the tank were black rather than white!

The companies know the markets ( or should know ) they are trying to reach so why not do a photo with the appropriate amount of clothing that makes the model and the company look good? The digitally covered photo makes Gisele and H&M look silly.

My great grandmother covered head to toe in ruffles and dresses is too risque for Dubai. I'm bored with these posts.

Everything's too racy in the UAE. Hey, great Tourism motto!

No, it isn't. They are actually pretty open minded, specially when disrespectful tourists decide to walk around town and the mall wearing short shorts, mini dresses and skirts, tank tops and what not... (which is extremely common). Nowdays, certain countries are considering banning the use of veil and head scarves, even if its by free will. If you consider that, they are pretty opened and accepting. You are always welcome and respected (unless you cross a huge line. but thats everywhere).
Having that said, i have lived there and i dont understand this whole photoshopping thing, not for this ad at least. i've seen WAY worse in there...

No covering up on the huge Berlin billboards of this campaign I saw over the weekend.

But I have to agree with mmeurteuil, I've seen much racier imagery in advertising in Mall of the Emirates.

Exactly. I mean, as much as i dont personally agree with these policies, they have my full respect. Its a different culture and religion. Having that said, it seems pretty hipocritical covering up a neckline when you have women in bras and panties on banners that goes from top ceiling to store floor. like, REALLY? this??

Now they're just being silly. But then again, any woman wearing anything less than a full beekeeper's suit is scandalous over there.
