Mitch Daniels Targeted By Democrats In Indiana (VIDEO)

Democrats Go After Potential Presidential Hopeful In Indiana

Seeking to draw Governor Mitch Daniels further into contentious debate over collective bargaining rights in Indiana, Democrats are out with a new ad going after the potential presidential contender.

Talking Points Memo obtained an advanced copy of the thirty-second spot released by the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee on Monday.

"Mitch Daniels and his friends have big plans or hard-working Hoosier families, but it's not more jobs or better wages," says a narrator in the television ad. "Instead, Governor Daniels and the Republicans in Indianapolis want to kill collective bargaining, slash wages for workers and decimate public schools by sending our tax dollars to private schools. But Democrats are standing up to Daniels' anti-middle class agenda and standing up for us. Tell Governor Daniels stop hurting middle class families."

In recent weeks, union workers in Indiana have held protests against several education and labor bills, including legislation that would restrict collective bargaining rights for teachers. According to the Associated Press, at one recent demonstration workers chanted, "Hey! Hey! Ho! Ho! Mitch Daniels has got to go!"

The Hill notes that Daniels acknowledged earlier this month that the dispute could ultimately affect any ambitions he may have to run for president in the next election cycle.

"We're all about the business of Indiana and trying to move an agenda forward right now," he said to the Associated Press. "That could well get in the way of any national participation. If it does, it does."
