Sweet 16 NCAA Tournament: Which Teams Reached The Next Round

Sweet Sixteen Ncaa Tournament

First Posted: 03/21/11 01:02 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:40 PM ET

The first two rounds of the NCAA tournament are over and low seeds like No. 11 VCU and No. 12 Richmond are still alive. Each day had something special. Buzzer beaters, game-winning shots, upsets - you name it. Now it's on to the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight. Here are the teams that reached the next round.

The third-seeded BYU Cougars will take on the Florida Gators on Thursday. Also in the Southeast region, No. 8 Butler will play the fourth-seeded Wisconsin Badgers.

Teams from the West region will play on Thursday as well. No. 1 Duke will square off against No. 5 Arizona and No. 2 San Diego State will play No. 3 UConn.

Teams from the Southwest and East regions play on Friday. The top-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes will face the No. 4 Kentucky Wildcats and the No. 11 Marquette Golden Eagles, who stunned No. 3 Syracuse on Sunday, will play the second-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels.

In the Southwest region, No. 1 Kansas plays the lowest seed left in the tournament, No. 12 Richmond. No. 11 VCU will take on No. 10 Florida State.

The tip-off times will be announced shortly.

If Wisconsin brings their A-minus game and shoots well from outside, Butler will be done. Inside, Badgers should be superior.

The Big Least has a whopping 2 teams remaining in the field out of 11 teams getting bids. That's pathetic. The "down" ACC has 3 teams left, their combined record in the tourney so far is 7-1. VT and BC got ROYALLY screwed by not getting bids to the dance. So much for that "far and away best" league. It's the ACC and Big10 yet again...

seeing that UConn played Cincy and Marquette played Syracuse, that "2" number is deceiving

Exactly, it could've been NONE if they had to play teams from another conference.

Neither Duke nor UNC exactly blew away their opponents. UNC was really pretty lucky and both teams were playing in Charlotte, practically a home game. Virginia Tech just lost at home to Wichita St. in the NIT. I think all you can conclude, outside of the Big East being overrated, is that there is a lot of parity and a lot of good teams are capable of beating a lot of other good teams. Who predicted VCU would make the Sweet Sixteen or that the Mountain West would have as many teams in as the Big 10, the Big East, and the SEC?

The BIG LEAST is--- and always will be --part espn/nyc media hype "creation" ..This year is no difference. A distant 3rd place team in acc, FSU., shuts down Ndame easily. Heels or Duke would run remaining Uconn or Marquette off the court

Yes, UNC and Duke won close games, but at the end of the day neither was blown out by double-digit seeds like ND and G'Town.

The Big Blue Kentucky Nation looks to the North and sees a Beast in Ohio St and wonders how in the heck did Florida get such an easy path and high seeding when UK beat them decisively twice at regular season's end?
