Obama Nobel Peace Prize Appeal Sought By Bolivian President And Russian Lawmaker

Obama

First Posted: 03/23/11 08:58 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:40 PM ET

The Bolivian president and a Russian political leader have launched a joint effort to have President Barack Obama stripped of the Nobel Peace Prize.

As Forbes is reporting, Russian Liberal Party leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky released a statement Monday saying that the prize, awarded to Obama in 2009 for his work on nuclear non-proliferation, was hypocritical in light of recent missile attacks in Libya.

"These developments in Libya are another outrageous act of aggression by NATO forces and, in particular, the United States," Zhirinovksy's statement, which appeared in Russian, is quoted by Forbes as saying. He went on to call the strikes part of a "colonial policy" with the goal to control Libyan oil.

Bolivian President Evo Morales echoed those sentiments. "How is it possible that a Nobel Peace Prize winner leads a gang to attack and invade? This is not a defense of human rights or self-determination," Morales, who is among of number of left-leaning Latin American leaders who have denounced the Libya attacks, is quoted by Digital Journal as saying.

The Nobel committee has been criticized both in the U.S. and abroad for its 2009 decision to award the prize to Obama for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples" only a few months after his inauguration. "The prize is coming a little bit early," Guenther Oettinger, leader of the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, is quoted by Bloomberg as saying. "He's at the beginning of his work, not the end."

Other pundits were more severe: "Obama gives speeches trashing his own country and for that gets a prize, which is now worth as much as whatever prizes they are putting in Cracker Jacks these days," Rush Limbaugh told Newsweek. "The Nobel gang just suicide-bombed themselves."

Some great men and women have won the peace prize however
so has Henrey Kissinger so it has little credibility for me.
I don't think Obama deserved the prize however I'm guessing he
didn't court it either. So it's all a bit of a non story really

The coalition forces, of which Obama is one, are trying to stop a bully from killing his own people, I would say that is a peacemaker.

Wait.....where have I heard that before........someone killing hundreds of thousands of his own people....hmmmmmm..it will come to me...

When you remember you can get back to me, cause that wasn't the reason for Afghanistan or Iraq. 911 was Afghanistan and weapons of mass distruction was Iraq. Kosovo was to stop the killing and that seemed to work. We stood by during Rwanda and that was a mistake..so tell me where you heard that before.

Uh, no, it's about regime change, not protecting civilians.

Jobs, the deficit, crumbling infrastructure, failing educational system, runaway health care industry, nuclear radiation, war.....and this is what some people are thinking about??? Get a life.
12:49 PM on 03/26/2011
considering that the GOP House appears to be stuck on unfunding NPR, Planned Parenthood and repealing the repeal of DADT -- hm. Hired because they yakked about jobs, jobs, jobs, and deficit, deficit, deficit -- and now all they can think about is their wish list of rolling back social progress to the 50s. They don't have a life...they want yours.

Yassir Arafat won a Nobel Peace Prize. I don't remember anyone asking for that one back. Ugh...

Wha in hades is wrong with people? The very first thing I would say to the American news, pundits, 3 day book writers and the rest, take this job and shove it. Even Bush went to war without consulting or getting a declaration, Obama steps in just to help, people freak. So, Mr President, I would not fault you at all if you and your family left, right now!

The problem with the "Arab League" endorsing the actions in Libya, is that it consists of Leaders that are doing the same thing to their own populations.

I had to send some guy on the site a little morning rationle and I had to share...Obama was awarded the prize for his work on reducing nuclear proliferation...he didn't ask...he probably didn't want it because he knew the first time he took any military action against anybody then people like you who never worried something like this before would come out with your hair on fire. Is this what keeps you up? How about this? I have been to Afghanistan and Iraq on four deployments. How about you? Instead of wasting time typing useless opinions, why don't you come help me find your Bush? Yeah. The guy responsible for almost 5000 American deaths in both those wars. No outrage there huh? GITMO? Those guys can rot there for all I care. Do you really care about that? The Bolivian president says something and you all go crazy. Come on people. Is this what we're worried about? As a servicemember I'm glad we dropped some heat on Libya. He deserved it but we actually have Americans saying he should have waited on Congress? The man can't get a request for paper clips through the House! Keep going Mr. President. They attack and disrespect, name call, talk about your family, race, birth and still you keep going and as a Soldier I respect that because somebody has to do it.

This would only be a meaningful discussion if the Nobel Peace Prize had any significance whatsoever. The award lost whatever credibility it once had in the mid 1970s.

I am initiating my own effort to strip Henry Kissinger of his Nobel Peace Prize. Please
write to my far flung Itty Bitty Committee (c/o Santa Claus, Deep North Policies). We
shall overdue.

Pandering, Pandering, Pandering, as evident today in South America and Russia, as in Iowa. Morales and Zhirinovsky are simply repeating what most everybody would expect them to say. Whether or not Obama deserves the Nobel is not a matter of supposition by the public but a decision made by the Nobel group, which is theirs and only their responsibility. Let us wait a few more years before we decide to strip Obama of his prize, after we have had time to digest his accomplishments and failures.

President Obama must really love his country. The attacks he endures from all fronts is incredible. Where were all these m0r0ns when GWB was busy destroying everything he touched in the name of democracy/capitalism????? Were they asleep.

Hypocrites, all of them, and jealous to boot.

I don't believe for a minute Obama wanted it, nor did he believe he deserved it during the early beginning days of his presidency.

With all else he's having to deal with -- have we EVER had a president who has had to deal with attacks from all fronts, including his own people?! -- he at some point may just want to stick it into a Flat-Rate UPS box and ship it off. It was/is too heavy and impossible a burden for a president such as he to carry.

that's not the fault of the Libyan cilivians who are suffering under your attacks.

I"m not going to say please.

JUST STOP!

The Libyans pleaded with Nato to do this. The French took the lead and as a Nato Country, your duty is to answer the call. Place the blame where it is warranted - Nato has ordered this for humanitarian reasons.
