Envirosearch.org: A Search Engine That Helps The Environment

Carbonfund.org has launched a new, free service that lets you support reforestation and wildlife preservation on an everyday basis simply by performing Internet searches. Powered by Microsoft’s Bing search engine and fueled by ads from Yahoo!, Envirosearch.org is a simplified online search tool that generates revenue for meaningful conservation initiatives every time it gets used.

The new search tool is the result of collaborative efforts made by several environmental organizations who believe that small, daily tasks like Internet searches could be a real source of funding for conservation and preservation projects.

“Envirosearch.org proves once again that protecting our environment and doing the things we enjoy and need to do can go hand in hand,” said Eric Carlson, president of Carbonfund.org. “If there is just one simple thing everyone can do today to help our environment, making the switch to Envirosearch.org is it.”

Initially, revenue generated from the new search service will support tree-planting programs in Haiti, India and the United States, along with the programs of its conservation partners.

A side by side comparison of search results from Envirosearch.org and Bing.com revealed a few notable differences. Envirosearch’s results page is noticeably cleaner and lacks some of the custom search results generated by location and personal information that Bing generates. Also, the sponsored search results, provided by Yahoo! ads, are fewer and less invasive than the Bing’s results page. Based on what we’re seeing, it looks like Envirosearch.org might be able to clean up your search pages and your carbon footprint at the same time.
