Majority Of America Is Now On Facebook: Report

Facebook may be getting closer to taking over America.

According to Edison Research, more than half of all Americans aged 12 or older are now on Facebook. The study showed that 51 percent of these Americans are on the site.

The researchers, who've been tracking Facebook's growth over the past 3 years, say usage has gone from 8 percent in 2008 to the new figure today.

The complete results of the study will be presented on April 5, through a webinar.

Edison Research's findings are based on a relatively small sample size, however: the survey included 2,020 people age 12 and over. In addition, the age range is a bit peculiar as Facebook's terms of service require users to be at least 13 years old.

We want to hear from you: Are you on Facebook? Why or why not? Take our poll below.

Change the question to "Are you using Facebook" or "Do you like Facebook" and I bet the results would be significantly different

Nope, not on Facebook. They have too many violations of privacy. It seems that every few weeks they incorporate some new feature to spread your personal information all over the Internet, such as their recent introduction of a feature to let third party developers have your phone number and home address. By the time users read the annoucement and figure out what's going on, their information has already been captured and distributed by the new feature. This is unacceptable.

I can't see any use for Facebook except for a business account to promote a product or service.

Proud to be in the 49% and I intend to keep it that way.

It seems that the results of a survey on whether people use Facebook would be skewed by the fact that the survey is online.

In the minority here.

Mostly all of my friends are on there. Only reason I'm not on there and why I left is because of their privacy issues.

If they fixed them, I'd go back.

Similar is true in Asia. With 139 million users in Asia, the platform is now the 5th largest nation in Asia.
Here's an infographic on the growth of Facebook:
