Terry Francona Addresses Buck Showalter's Comments: Red Sox Manager 'Aggravated'

Red Sox Manager Fires Back At O's Manager

Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona responded to Baltimore Orioles skipper Buck Showalter's criticism of Boston general manager Theo Epstein on Sunday.

Francona said he felt "aggravated" by Showalter's remarks and thought they were "out of line."

"I don't think he'd be appreciating it if I said something about Andy (Orioles general manager MacPhail), which I wouldn't," he said.

Showalter ripped Epstein in the April issue of Men's Journal magazine.

"I'd like to see how smart (Boston GM) Theo Epstein is with the Tampa Bay payroll. (Boston) got Carl Crawford because (it) paid more than anyone else. That's what makes you smarter?" the two-time A.L. Manager of the Year said. "That's why I like whipping their butt. It's great knowing those guys with the $250 million payroll are saying: 'How the hell are they beating us?'"

Francona also took a shot at Baltimore.

"I don't remember them beating us that much. Maybe there was some different schedule, I don't know," he said.
