Will Ferrell Reveals 'The Office' Character, Deangelo Vickers

Will Ferrell The Office

Dunder Mifflin, say hello to your new boss. His name is Deangelo Vickers.

Will Ferrell, who was teased as Michael Scott's replacement on "The Office" last Thursday, gave Entertainment Weekly the details about his sure to be zany character.

“My character’s name is Deangelo Vickers, he loves the American Southwest, and he’s just kind of in his own way going to step into Michael Scott’s shoes and try to fill them," Ferrell said. "I’m friends with Steve [Carell] and a fan of the show, and I just selfishly wanted to do one episode with him, and they pitched multiple ones, and I said, ‘That’d be great.’”

Ferrell also hinted that he may take over full time, but it's unlikely; right now, he's signed up for the final four episodes of the season. Still, the possibility remains; the show has yet to announce a new, regular boss.

Carell is leaving the show after seven hit seasons; he announced his exit in June, 2010.

I love the office but like every other really good comedy show, when the star leaves it's time to pack up the tent and move on. Can you imagine the Seinfeld show without Jerry Seinfeld, or Everybody loves Raymond with Ray Romano or Curb Your Enthusiam without Larry David? Go back in history and try and envision the Sid Caesar, Jackie Gleason, Lucille Ball, or Jack Benny shows without their stars.

Great comedies are few and far between but when they happen they are a combination of a great situation, a great cast, and really good writers.

The Office was just one of those shows but it's time is up and we'll have to wait until the next brilliant set writers, creators, and cast create the next great show.

I was never a fan of The Office because Steve Carell always gave me the urge to throw my shoe at the screen.............. But Will Ferrell is just plain annoying..............

I don't watch the program, but I understand it's very popular and successful. Adding Will Ferrell will doom the program. He is one of the least funny people on the planet. He overdoes everything, has lousy timing and his delivery is horrid. Other than that, he's great. ;-)

Can't wait to see him on this show. But I will definitely miss Carell on it. He was so perfect for the role. It would be cool to see Ricky on it too.

He'll be banging Angela by the second episode. So I look forward to Dwight's evil scheme to destroy him.

He will not be the permanent branch manger, trust me. He will do a 4-5 episode arc to close the season, but the permanent manager will come in at the beginning of next season.

I think Ferrell will potentially bring new life blood to this show. It was starting to drain of me interest until I heard he was going to be on it. Let the hilarity begin!

Although Carell is AWESOME as Michael Scott, I think Will can be just as great in the role of branch manager! I can already picture all the LOL's!

I mean I will miss the actor because every time I have seen him interviewed he seems like a genuinely nice guy and I love the way he plays the character of Michael so I will miss them both.

Massive pay cut. I just don't see him willing to do this for an entire season.

His agent and manager and everyone else who gets a piece of his paycheck just might.

Look. I hope he does it. I really do. But coming off of Megamind and Good Guys, both hits, he's on a roll. What gives me some hope is that he has nothing in pre-production on imdb.

Ricky Gervais mentioned on his blog that he thought Will Arnett should be on the show permanently. He didn't say, however, that Arnett should be Steve's replacement. I think Ferrell could be really great.

I hadn't heard that Gervais wanted Will Arnett on the show. That possibility makes me smile...if only.
