Rick Santorum Blames Abortion For Social Security Woes

Rick Santorum Abortion Social Security

First Posted: 03/29/11 11:58 AM ET Updated: 05/29/11 06:12 AM ET

(AP) CONCORD, N.H. — In his latest trip to New Hampshire, Republican Rick Santorum says the Social Security system would be in much better shape if there were fewer abortions.

The former Pennsylvania senator and potential presidential candidate was asked about Social Security during an interview on WESZ-AM radio in Laconia on Tuesday morning.

He says the system has design flaws, but the reason it is in big trouble is that there aren't enough workers to support retirees. He blamed that on what he called the nation's abortion culture. He says that culture, coupled with policies that do not support families, deny America what it needs -- more people.

Santorum has been a frequent visitor to New Hampshire, which holds the earliest presidential primary.

There's a nasty underbelly to Santorum's logic. The Radical Right's obsession with the 'personhood' of every single fertilized egg, and that egg's right to eventual birth, is the FEAR they have of NON-WHITE population increase. "And, bigawd, if all those white women don't want to have lots of babies, we'll force 'em to have 'em." That's what their attack on women's reproductive rights is REALLY all about.

OK...so perhaps all those abortions would have never happened...

...and we end up with millions more unemployed and/or unemployable.

How about we focus on the many who are out there right now that could be working and feeding the SS fund? I mean...you say things like this when you have a POPULATION SHORTAGE and there are loads of job openings with no one to fill them.

At this point, I say the less people out there, the better. We can't seem to take care of more population as a whole.

Yeah, when I was a teenager my mom sent me to planned parenthood to get on birth control, not an abortion. If not for planned parenthood I might have ended up a teen mom. But what about all those teens out there that didn't get that advice that ended up pregnant with no way but the welfare system to help take care of those babies. If not for abortion those babies might have ended up in dumpsters or starving to death, or beaten because the mother or father couldn't stand the crying because they couldn't feed that baby, come on people, letting that egg go would be far more humane than the travesty of letting that child live in such a manner. If the TP and the repubs get their way there will be no welfare, no social security, no help for those in need but they would fight to bring those fetuses to full term only to see them suffer a worse fate of living in poverty and pain. Where will they be then, are they going to adopt all those children or are they just going to end up dead anyway after suffering through a miserable life anyway because there was no hope and not help. Go ahead and vote republican then try giving them a call if you find yourself in need, good luck with that.

OMG. And now for More On Santorum......though he is educated with masters and law degree and is a practicing lawyer.........
1. When a senator he tried to put a rider on the no child left behind to force teaching of intelligent design.
2. Was listed in the beyond Tom Delay ethics probe as one of the 5 most corrupt in senate.
3. Is a champion of the Workplace Religious Freedom Act where by folks could among other things wear religious garments/clothes to work.
4. Does not agree that the right to privacy is a constitutional right for polygamy, homosexuality or any act that does not promote healthy families.

I could go on, but you get the picture. Wiki him and be sad.

It couldn't be that big business has turned it's back on America and sent most good paying manufacturing jobs overseas, could it? People making $7-$10/hr are paying much less into social security than people making a more livable wage of $15-$20/hr. (By the way.......employers pay 1/2 of your social security withholding)

The lesson here is: the government let the decent jobs leave the country...so now the government can make up the difference

Not only did they send our jobs overseas, they are working to destroy collective barganing for all so that we can all work for $5 and hour. There are many, many men and women who fought long and hard for those rights and you got repubs fighting to destroy that so that their rich buddies can put more money in their pocket and we can all just learn to deal. All I can say is if you have a problem with all that, VOTE PEOPLE VOTE!!!!

There are sooo many places to go with this. But I would just like to ask Mr Santorum, is he saying we are short on workers right now?

Oh yeah, real short. My daughter is 25 with an excellent work record, putting herself through college and finally, many applications and two years later she got a job at a convenience store. Yeah sure, there are a shortage of workers. Pleasssseeee

Have a kid from incest or rape or one with a horrible genetic disease? Drop them off at Rick Santorum's house. Let's elect him manager of all society's unwanted children rather than President.

Yes, just imagine all of those children who were never born because they were not wanted, mostly due to ignorance of birth control methods add/or abject poverty.

You know, the children that grow up to be housed in prisons, collect entitlements, and pay no taxes.

"American" is my religion. I have faith in it.

It just occured to me that if Santorum really believes this, then he should eagerly embrace every "anchor baby", and young non-American citizen child raised in this country, as that would be a future worker paying into the system.
