No time for elaborate practical jokes this April Fool's? Not a problem, it's 2011--meaning, apps can do just about anything these days. Measure beauty, check for STDs, even fix late night drunken social media stupidity. So why not pranks? Below, 10 digital solutions for your April Fool's Day wickedness.
1. Hearing Test
Our #1 favorite, Hearing Test is like something out of a horror movie. Wait for it... wait for it...!!
Cost: $1.99; download here.
2. iFart
Stupid humor at its best, iFart is one of the most popular prankster apps to grace the iTunes store. The digital flatulence machine offers a vast variety of fart sounds, and it's just perfect for a wildly inappropriate setting...
Cost: 99¢; download here.
3. Dude, Your Car!
Cruel, but amazing, Dude, Your Car! offers easy photo editing software to make a friend's car look like it's been involved in a hit-and-run accident while parked outside. It works like this:
- Snap a picture of the car.
- Draw an outline in the area where you wish to apply the damage.
- Apply a damage type from a library of photos (e.g. dent, scratch, broken glass).
- Adjust the damage type by using the available tools.
- Save or email the picture.
Cost: 99¢; download here.
4. Fat Booth
Perhaps not the best app to use on your calorie counting friends, Fat Booth allows you to fatten up your victims--simply sit them in front of the camera, take a photo and pile on the pounds. Be sure to humiliate them further by sharing their new look via Facebook and Twitter.
Cost: 99¢; download here. Also available: AgingBooth and BaldBooth.
5. The Ultimate X-Ray
Your victim might need to be under the age of 10 for this one--one would hope an adult wouldn't be suckered into believing an iPhone could have an X-ray vision, but hey, you never know.
Cost: 99¢; download here.
6. Voice Changer
If you've seen Scream, or any other other horror movie involving creepy phone calls for that matter, you know how frightening a voice changer can be. The Voice Changer app offers over 40 different voices to choose from, as well as "high quality voice morphing".
Cost: free; download here.
7. PunkSMS
Got a gullible friend? Then spin a tale of late night partying that ended in a celebrity fest, with a passionate and budding new friendship... with ugh, John Mayer. PunkSMS lets you enter any name to pretend text back-and-forth with, in a system that looks identical to Apple's built in SMS Application. Tip: You can create "magic words" that will trigger a predetermined response you came up with.
Cost: 99¢; download here.
8. Fake a Call
Incredibly convenient for bad dates and awkward social situations, Fake a Call is certainly useful outside of April Fool's Day. But with a little creativity, I'm sure you can figure out something especially nefarious for the big day.
Cost: free; download here.
9. Lie Detector
Again, Lie Detector requires some truly pathetic gullibility. Tell your victim to press their thumb down on the screen. Ask them an embarrassing question, and make 'em squirm. A lie-ometer will flash up on screen "gauging" their truthfulness.
Cost: free; download here.
10. Prankboard: Mr. Rogers
An anonymous creepy voice is just that... creepy. But to get a phone call from Mr. Rogers is mystifying. This app allows you to select your friends to prank from either your existing contacts or manually dial them. Once they pick up, choose from a bank of Mr. Rogers sound bytes and keep the conversation going as long as you can.
Cost: 99¢; download here.
