Bruce Springsteen Writes Letter To Asbury Park Press

03/31/11 09:30 AM ET   AP

Bruce Springsteen

NEPTUNE, N.J. — Bruce Springsteen has written a Letter to the Editor to what he calls his hometown newspaper.

Springsteen on Thursday thanked the Asbury Park Press for a March 27 article about how anti-poverty groups in New Jersey are facing an uphill battle as Gov. Chris Christie seeks to cut spending and property taxes.

Springsteen writes that the "article shows that the cuts are eating away at the lower edges of the middle class, not just those already classified as in poverty."

Springsteen says it will "likely to continue to get worse over the next few years."

The letter is signed: Bruce Springsteen, Colts Neck.

Your fans would have more money if your concerts were cheaper Boss.

Bruce could give away all his money and make a giant dent!  Go for it "Boss." Put your money where your mouth is and give away everything to help your fellow man.

It's good to see that some of our celebrities haven't forgotten their roots.

Lyrics to Gov.Christie from the song Hungry heart

Lay down your money and you play your part
Everybody's got a hungry heart...........

Everybody needs a place to rest
Everybody wants to have a home
Don't make no difference what nobody says
Ain't nobody like to be alone

For those who have tried to dog the boss for being rich, these lyrics suggest that he struggles with that guilt himself.

Now Raphael Rodriguez was just seven years old
Shot down in a schoolyard by some East Compton Cholos
His mamma cried "My beautiful boy is dead"
In the hills the self-made men just sighed and shook their heads

This is a prayer for the souls of the departed
Those who've gone and left their babies brokenhearted
Young lives over before they got started
This is a prayer for the souls of the departed

Tonight as I tuck my own son in bed
All I can think of is what if it would've been him instead
I want to build me a wall so high nothing can burn it down
Right here on my own piece of dirty ground

Now I ply my trade in the land of king dollar
Where you get paid and your silence passes as honor
And all the hatred and dirty little lies
Been written off the books and into decent men's eyes

I'm wherever theres a cop, beatin' a guy
Wherever a hungry, born baby cries
When theres a fight against the blood, and hatred in the air
Look for me, Mama I'll be there

Whenever somebody's fighting for a place to stand
For a decent job or a helping hand
Wherever somebodys strugling to be free
lookin their eyes, Mama you'll see me!

He is using his fame to shed light on a very troubling aspect of society: the poor, taking away from the poor and ignoring the poor.
He donates to the Monmouth County food bank among other charities in NJ. His music is all about the disadvantaged.
He gets it.

I'm a Jersey Girl and Bruce has always been my favorite, as much for his music as his humanitarian heart.

NJ has the highest property taxes in the nation. Corruption was rampant under Corzine. At least Christie is trying to bring some sanity to that state. Bruce is a great entertainer, let's leave it at that.
03:14 PM on 04/01/2011
Since there is just so much money to go around....less now after Corzine...Bruce might consider parting with a few of his millions and/or give concerts to help his home state. What ever happened to reality vs. Eutopia.
