Kim Cattrall Lashes Out At 'New York Post' Reporter

Kim Cattrall

First Posted: 03/31/11 11:04 AM ET Updated: 05/31/11 06:12 AM ET

Kim Cattrall had no kind words for a New York Post reporter at the Wednesday night premiere of her new film, 'Meet Monica Velour.' She criticized the Page Six columnist for not having a "respectable job" before giving some career advice:

"Why don't you work at - what's that news agency - Roybers?" the actress said. When prompted with "Reuters," she admitted, "Yeah, sorry, I've been drinking."

The rant didn't end there.

"What about writing for a blog?" she continued. "Then you can write about what you want [or] care about."

At the same event, Kim also got snippy with a reporter from the New York Daily News. When asked about how her 21-year-old costar, Dustin Ingram, handled their onscreen kiss, she said, "You know, as a woman, I really find those questions offensive. As a woman, I find that really embarrassing [for you] to ask that."

Maybe Kim was having a rough night.

"Ask me about being a woman," she told Page Six. "Do you know what it's like to be 54 and marginalized? It doesn't get easier as you get older."

Kim put on 20 pounds to play the film's title character, an aging porn star - and she previously described her first break from dieting in 25 years as "wonderful."

Kim is fantastic!

Oh come on get over yourself Kim. Countless 54-year old men have a far worse time. Thank your star that you're well-known and have your millions in your bank account and have a comfortable life.

I watched the full six installments of Kim Cattrell's segment on Who Do you Think You Are?
It really showed her as a classy lady. And it was such an interesting, heartbreaking and kept you interested segment.

Her Grandfather was a piece of work! If anyone watches the 6 parts here on Youtube, you won't be disappointed! I'm a fan of the show now.

I saw that show as well and Cattrall's ancestry was completely fascinating! Wow! I also watched the ones with Steve Buscemi and Gwenyth Paltrow and they were both excellent. I am a real fan of that program!

Thanks Blue for telling me that. I'll Youtube Steve & Gwenyth's. I really liked Kim's segment. First time I ever saw Who Do You Think You Are. You're right - it was fascinating stuff!

Her grandfather was something else wasn't he?

I have become a huge fan of this show! I also like the sarcastic title. :)

Kim is making perfect sense. No one asks a 54-year old actor what it's like to kiss his 21-year old female co-star.

Sounds like she had a little too much to drink, and no PR person nearby to steer her the other way when she started getting annoyed with the reporters' questions. As a woman approaching my 50's, I can certainly relate to the issue of coming to terms with my changing appearance and how the rest of the world acknowledges me (or doesn't, as the case might be). But then again, I've only ever had average looks, so I long ago got used to having to be charming, funny or otherwise engaging because I wasn't able to rely on my appearance alone to make my way easier. She needs to stop worrying about what everyone else thinks and focus on being a strong woman of a certain age - once you do that, it's actually pretty cool.

good advice! One that we should all take regardless of age and other circumstances.

She should have said simply wonderful and let it go at that. It is tough for everyone in that business. Much easier to remember the misses than the hits unfortunately. Not to mention get too use to living the "good life" and never wanting it to end. Oh well. " A kiss is still a kiss.. a smile is still a smile" no matter how old you are. Since it is acting it's fake anyways so who really cares? Of course Helen Mirran is doing just fine and how old is she? Maybe she just shrugged off her losses and stood tall for her triumphs? That is the best way to handle these type of situations.

Yes, sweetTart you are right. Good advice. I deserve every wonderful thing that I get and the bad things? Well, you take the good with the bad. Be like Elizabeth Taylor and Cher. Just roll with the punches. Know your material and use the media to hack your stuff. Turn every question into an opportunity as much as you can. :)

She did it to herself. She boxed herself in to a certain personna and now finds it extremely had to change it.

Kim has played several characters. Sex & The City just happens to be the most familiar.

Any one who questions Kim Cattral's acting ability should see her in last years Ghost Writer. A really great movie, and she was solid in it.

That was a good movie.

I do understand what she's saying though. Hollywood treats women differently after 35 and sometimes after you have kids. I'm sure at 54, she's having a rough go at finding roles.

And I don't believe she put herself in a box. She was in movies and tv for years before she landed the SATC gig.

"Ghost Writer" was excellent and Cattral was terrific in it! I also liked her in "My Boy Jack" on PBS. Her acting was so good in that film that she made me cry! I don't believe she has locked herself into a box by playing "Samantha Jones." That was schlock that gave her the money to do other work. "My Boy Jack" was a period piece and she wore dressed that covered her from her neck to her toes and she was still great!

It's hard to judge this, because we're only seeing words, not a verbal exchange. To me the interviewers questions aren't offensive. Actor's are always asked what is like kissing "so and so", especially when it is a female-on-female kiss or male-on-male. I remember an article not too long ago where Michelle Williams & Ryan Gosling discussed their sex scenes.

Perhaps she took the interviewers intentions out of context?

As far as Kim goes -- she's been pretty snotty in interviews for some time. I've watched a lot of interviews and heard a lot about her over the years due to my Sex & The City fetish... and I am not too impressed with her - off-screen.

I admire her for challenging the media on their sexist attitudes about women over 40 but she's definitely going to need a thicker skin because I don't see the attitudes changing anytime soon. It's good to know that women like her are chipping away at the ignorance.

Did she say as a 54 white woman she is margenalized? Good thing we don't expect social intelligence from our celebrities.
11:28 AM on 04/01/2011
No, she said as a 54-year-old woman she is marginalized. She didn't mention anything about race. The issue here is pretty obvious to me: women (of all races) are treated like they don't count after they reach a certain age. The question is offensive, and most certainly would not have been asked any young actress paired with Clint Eastwood, Al Pacino, Sean Connery, Michael Douglas, or any other old male actor. To be honest, sometimes I have seen movies when the actess is so much younger I do wonder how she feels about having to make out with what is essentially a man old enough to be her grandpa, and even wondered why no one ever asked these young women that particular question. I guess they didn't want to make the actor angry, but they are willing to go after an older actress because she's an easy target. And you're right, racism is ugly, but so is sexism, and I really think it's okay to speak out against one without having to give equal airtime to the other.

She is marginalized as a 54 year old woman actress.

Why do you have to bring race into this? Granted a 54 year old ethnic woman actress might feel even more marginalized, that doesn't cancel out Cattrall's feeling of being one herself.

Say What?

Any actress who could work such an iconic character as Samantha Jones has nothing to worry about. With the emphasis on youth within our culture getting older has become even more of a challenge. Just when a woman reaches the age where she really has a lot to say and impart, she becomes invisible.
