Sketch Of CTA iPhone Robber Who Killed Sally Katona-King Released By Police

Cops Look For iPhone Robber Accused Of Killing Church Deacon

A sketch of the man suspected of killing Sally Katona-King at the Fullerton L stop on Tuesday was released by police Thursday, in hopes of engaging the community in the search for the suspect.

According to witness accounts, the man snatched an iPhone from the hands of a commuter as the train opened its doors at Fullerton, then took off running. Katona-King, a church deacon who volunteered at homeless shelters, was climbing up the stairs to the platform, and found herself in the robbery suspect's way. He apparently knocked her to the ground on his getaway, killing her.

A witness described the suspect as an African-American male, with a long face and short hair. Police were also able to narrow down their initial description of the suspect's build. They now believe he was between 17 and 25 years old, 5-foot-11 and 6-foot-4, and 170 and 220 pounds.

"We're going to treat this as seriously as any homicide," Belmont Area detective Commander Gary Yamashiroya said at a press conference, according to the Chicago Tribune. Yamashiroya was guarded about the investigation, sharing few other details beyond the new sketch and description.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact Belmont Area detectives at (312) 744-8262.
