Food & Wine Announces Its 2011 Best New Chefs Class

Last night, Food & Wine announced one of the biggest food awards of the year; the inductees to its class of 2011 best new chefs. The winners are:

Jason Franey, Canlis, Seattle, WA
Bryce Gilmore, Barley Swine and Odd Duck Farm to Trailer, Austin, TX
Stephanie Izard, Girl & The Goat, Chicago, IL
James Lewis, Bettola, Birmingham, AL
George Mendes, Aldea, Manhattan
Carlo Mirarchi, Roberta’s, Brooklyn, NY
Joshua Skenes, Saison, San Francisco, CA
Kevin Willmann, Farmhaus, St. Louis, MO
Ricardo Zarate, Mo-Chica, Los Angeles, CA

The award honors up-and-coming chefs with a unique culinary style and vision, and are often a good predictor of bright careers ahead. Past winners include Thomas Keller (1988), Daniel Boulud (1988), Grant Achatz (2002) and David Chang (2006).

The event featured dishes from Michael Anthony of Gramercy Tavern (2002), Jonathan Benno of Lincoln (2006), Tom Colicchio of Craft (1991), Rocco DiSpirito (1999), Missy Robbins of A Voce (2010) and Top Chef season 7 winner Kevin Sbraga.
