Bill Maher's New Rule For Pro-Lifers (VIDEO)

First Posted: 04/07/11 01:06 PM ET Updated: 06/07/11 06:12 AM ET

Once again, Bill Maher cuts right to the heart of a big issue with uncanny wit and clarity.

In this exclusive preview, Maher suggests a few other things that women who are carrying unwanted pregnancies should be forced to watch, if they are indeed going to be forced to watch an ultrasound of the fetus they're carrying.

We think it's tough but fair.

Anyone ever check out the EWTN programs? Those dreamy-eyed players could give one nightmares. Absolute mind control.

Great posts on this. However, I believe part of the reason some politicians oppose abortion so strongly is an unspoken anxiety about losing the tax base of the future. What would become of America without it? And generally speaking, the majority of women provide free labor in the care and upbringing of this tax base.

And speaking of guns and Republicans, I have a message for all of them: if owning guns made us safer, we'd be the safest country in the world. In reality, no man, woman or child is safe in these United States...random crime happens daily in every community we call home.

This is great. You are so blinded by yourself and your beliefs.....you don't realize the mentality you are applying here and the policies you are inherently supporting are UNSUSTAINABLE. FYI I drive an SUV too but I don't B**CH about it.

Used to be a huge fan of his show on Comedy Central and ABC, but the HBO show is unwatchable. The guy is angry and unfunny these days! Once Bill became a paid sponsor for the Democratic Party his show jumped the shark.

Considering this guy has had some of the harshest criticism of Democrats in general and Obama in particular, where exactly are you coming from?

Bill criticizes everyone who needs criticism. Some of his harshest criticism has been for Obama and the Democrats. He just makes fun of the Republicans, because they're nothing but a joke nowadays. If you want to see someone who used to be even-handed and is now a paid spokesperson for one political party, see Mr. Dennis Miller. He USED to go after anyone who needed it, the way Maher does. But somewhere around 2006 his nose suddenly became deep brown from spending all its time up George Bush's *ss.

I like it but I like his commentary from last Friday on the unacknowledged class war in this country. It was funny and courageous. I'm shocked that HP wouldn't have a clip of it.

I know HP folks will hate this...but: Bill does not have kids...if he did, he probably wouldn't make this joke. I am pro women's choice, but this particular joke...comparing abortion to bratty kids is the kind of joke you make when you have never given birth. It's just not that funny, except to those who haven't lived all that much in the real world. I am a big Bill Maher fan...he's often hysterical. But here he comes off as wimpy-intellectual 'oh the masses are so amusing' type guy. Just an opinion.

I don’t think he hates kids.
I think he is pointing out that the ultrasound rule is kinda one sided.
That rule was also put forward by men, who like Bill, have not given birth either…
Personally, I think it rather weird that so many men are involved in deciding what happens relative to a woman's body.
It's not like women in Congress are telling men when, where and how to get vasectomies.

common sense isn't so common
01:59 PM on 04/13/2011
Maybe that's the problem. I'm really starting to believe its time to throw these men off their game and start demanding vasectomies for any man behind on child support. Why? Because its time these miscreants in Congress spent as much time fighting to retain the rights of men over their own bodies as they spend trying to deny the rights of women over their own bodies.

New rule: Republicans can't credibly discuss abortion, social security, medicare, or immigration until they present the jobs bill they campaigned on.

Since prolifers want less aboortions I think it is only fair that they take in the 500,0000 children forced onto the streets due to child abuse. And while we are at it how about all those children ( close to 2 million) they said they would adopt that are currently languishing in special homes and the foster care system because they are "unadoptable", due to physical and emotional disabilites.I say we ship them to WAshington DC and have the "pro-life", politicians take care of them; especially now that they have cut social welfare funding.

I couldn't agree more. Fanned and faved.

I call that the pro-consumer agenda. They claim to want to protect life, but display no willingness to cultivate it once it leaves the womb. That means they must want more human beings around for some other reason. George Carlin once said that "Republicans want live babies.......so they can grow up to become dead soldiers", but I'd like to amend that and add that Republicans want live babies so they can grow up to be avid consumers, blind voters, and dead soldiers.

Actually, one of the Republicans just recently said that we should be having MORE children to bolster the social security system. Insanity.

I say if they try to make abortion illegal, Dems should propose an amendment mandating that pro-lifers adopt two children EACH from Adoptive Services in their state. Watch how the weasels would squeal XD

Pro-lifers can only be legitimately be called so when they champion the cause of sex education and support safe and affordable birth control to facilitate family planning. Until then, they have no moral ground to stand on against abortion.

It's disgusting that they want to wait to intervene until after the woman is pregnant. Further proof that christian fundamentalists want as many babies born as possible. Quiverfull anyone?

The fundies truly believe that abortion is killing an innocent life. Which is fine - to each his own. But that belief has made them susceptible to political machinations by unscrupulous Republicans (is there any other kind really?).

Jesus said to feed the hungry and thirsty, clothe people, welcome them into your home, take care of the sick and visit those who are imprisoned. Those are Democratic values and should be Christan values. But the abortion issue (and it's sister issue Gay marriage) have led them away from things that actually make a difference. That's why Republicans always bring them up.

not always. but yeah, pro lifers want to make woman's lives miserable. Like how our lives used to be. And it doesn't matter how many times we say we do not like abortions,-- we want them to be extremely rare, --we are not pro abortion. Unless I was raped or my life was at risk, I would never imagine getting an abortion. But it's not a choice one makes for another person.

So I watched "Lake Of Fire", which is a great unbiased doc on abortion, and then I watched "Unborn in America" which is almost entirely from interviews with pro lifers, but is fairly disturbing as it shows their tactics and schools. I didn't know they had school with class dedicated to confronting people about abortions, but they do. They use a video of this women being ganged up on as a teaching device. Very sickening.

Uh yeah.
That's because it's the guys making those rules.

They don’t have to give birth, change, clean or feed the baby - they are too busy making the rules for women to live by.
