Pia Toscano, Eliminated `Idol' Singer, Got Medic, Judge Aid

Pia Toscano

By LYNN ELBER   04/ 8/11 05:18 PM ET   AP

LOS ANGELES -- Pia Toscano says she expected to land in the bottom three on "American Idol" but felt overwhelmed when she was eliminated that she needed a little medical assistance.

The 22-year-old singer from New York City said Friday that she had a medic walk her offstage at the end of Thursday's show in Los Angeles. She says she needed help because she had a "little bit of a moment."

Toscano didn't offer details, but says she's fine after receiving aid – and the support of the show's judges.

Judges Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez expressed shock on the air that the audience vote failed to keep Toscano in the competition.

The songbird says the "American Idol" panel offered her love and support later.

Her breaking up with her boyfriend of four years for Mark Ballas causes me not to feel sorry for her being eliminated.

Got a little stardom, and it went straight to and through her head.

sorry PIA thinking ya were so great, talented, and remarkable positive, I didn't vote 4 you, instead voting for a lesser artist...well, that was the wrong thing 2 do...u sudda NEVER got the boot.

Beautiful lady, Beautiful voice but no showmanship. I think that's what got her voted off. She needed to come out and put on a performance, and she didn't! Sorry to see her go though. I think she would have gotten better. She was my husbands favorite.

I love women who "over-sing" their songs!! Love you Pia, but let this be an early reminder of how fickle the entertainment business (or any business for that matter) is!!! Think of the positive, you've got a record deal!!!

Thanks to the more recent (past 20 years) crop of narcissistic pop fashion victims like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Pink, Avril Levigne, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Brandy, Beyonce, Gergie, Gwen Stefani, Rihanna, Shakira, etc., etc., etc. -- American Idol is besieged with like-minded mimics year after year. YAWN... Where is the new Joni Mitchell? Bonnie Raitt? Aretha Franklin?

Toscano's voice is nice but nothing special.....her looks are what saved her form being eliminated before this week. She is quite boring, she sings without a soul; without passion and without that special something that makes one a "star".

Agree. The women are bland, bland, bland -- as are most of the men. They all tend to over-sing every song, with too many runs that serve only to butcher the melody.

I don't know why anyone is surprised at the loopy, inexplicable voting practices of the American people.

LOL! F&F!
I really thought she would win but the teeny boppers are out voting full force so talent doesn't have much to do with it; it's popularity. There has to be a better way. One thing they could do is limit votes. But then this could take the "fun" away from telling the audience how many votes had been cast the week before. Common sense has become obsolete in America...

I guess my age is showing here. But I can't bare to watch all these so called "reality" shows. These housewives of who cares, survivor this survivor that, Kate and her 8 on and on. Whatever happened to quality TV. I guess it's just my age showing. On the upswing though I can save money by not watching tv.

The way I see it...being able to vote as many times as you like/can in two hours is a problem. Take Pia, she had been likened to Celine Dion so would appeal to an older crowd and of course her beauty was a draw for some. That generation isn't going to vote as many times as a kids might. The kids who will vote over and over again have too much say in this competition.

Don't weep for her too hard. She just signed a deal with Interscope Records.

08:45 PM on 04/12/2011
rumors run rampant with 'celebrities' gotta juice it up, at their expense, wutta waste of gossip, she'll BE BIG YET! cause she has the range and the right notes, unlike most others..

She was not "voted off" she just wasn't voted in. It's not like there was a vote to remove Pia - she just did not receive the votes to keep her in. As I see it, America votes for the whole package. Pia although beautiful and an amazing singer lacked in a likable personality and failed to show any star power. There are lots and lots of talented musically inclined people in our nation. If all that was required to become a hit was talent thousands more would be stars. There was a reason Lee won last year - we like nice people with an underdog story.

..Oh please, Lee should NOT have won, sob story or not. I h a te the sob stories because they drive unwarranted votes. You mean to tell me because a person DOESN'T have a sob story - they don't deserve to win? AND, where is little Lee today in comparison to Adam?

Oh please Lee was my favorite and obviously should have won because he did win. Did I say that just because you dont have a sob story someone should not win>>>????!!!! I believe I said we as a nation have empathy and vote our hearts and not always the talent. We like nice people who we want to see achieve. Now you may not, but given my underdog fave won - seems like I am among the majority and you must be among those who think you are always right and everyone else has to be wrong. I don't know where is Adam today? Not a clue... and don't care...
