Irdavanti Mukhtar, Indonesian Woman, Caned In Public For Adultery (PHOTOS)

Caning Iiii

A 34-year-old Indonesian woman was caned in front of a mosque after being caught having extramarital affairs while divorcing her husband.

Irdayanti Mukhtar received nine lashes of the cane for committing adultery before 200 jeering onlookers outside the Al Munawwarah Mosque in Jantho, Indonesia, the Jakarta Globe is reporting.

Mukhtar had been sentenced to the punishment the previous day by a Sharia court where prosecutors said that she was guilty of being in "close proximity" to another man.

The Daily Mail reports that Mukthar was one of four people, including the man she was caught with, to be caned for extramarital affairs Friday. Sharia Police are also investigating a claim that Mukhtar was molested by the crowd before they took her to be charged.

Shortly after the caning, Mukhtar passed out and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.

People of the World. Can you hear me??? Bangladesh is in utter chaos. Though our government is trying their best but still in this 21st century we have electricity problem, gas problem, water problem and security problem. Drastic change need to happen right NOW!!!!
06:40 AM on 04/15/2011
This type of incidents sometimes occur in Bangladesh also. There are some people who commit adultery but those who give punishments, they themselves do not know QURAN well to give punishment. We need a change, we need to act now.

Do you, yourself, understand The Quran? If you do not, take the first step - there is a reason why the first revelation to the Prophet (pbuh) is Iqra'.

Change must come from you. Others may come and change things for you. But you may not like the changes they make.

Anyone who's read the Quran knows its next to impossible to prove "adultery".

You need four male witnesses of good moral standing who must have seen actual coitus take place - and nothing less - not even seeing a couple in the nude together would suffice.

What's more, the witnesses must not have imposed on the couple i.e. their privacy must have been respected when they saw the act. So if they were at it in a field with a cloth covering thier private parts - the testimony does not count.

"Mukhtar had been sentenced to the punishment the previous day by a Sharia court where prosecutors said that she was guilty of being in "close proximity" to another man."

"Close proximity" can't suffice as evidence for meting out a charge on adultery.

To better understand Sharia Laws and why Muslims (who are Mukmineen) accept these laws, you must first understand how Muslims see their lives on this Earth (in relation to Akhirat - the Hereafter), and their relationships to Allah.

Otherwise your comments here would all be running in circles. :)

There could be no relationship with an imaginary being.
There's a only one relationship--- with a a set of dogmas invented by a trader in Ancient Arabia, Mohammad. son of Abdullah.

A customer walked into a barbershop, asking for a haircut.

As the barber cut the customer's hair, the barber rambled on the injustices of the world; how 'small people' are being trampled by the 'big people'; the miseries that he saw everyday in his world. "There is no God," the barber concluded. "If there is God, how can He allow all those bad things to happen?"

The customer kept quiet, paid his bill, and walked out. He returned a few minutes later and said to the barber, "There is no barber!". "How can you say that? I just gave you a haircut", replied the barber.

The customer : "I just came across a disheveled man! His hairs were long and unkept. That mean there is no barber." The man smiled and walk away :)

FYI, Allah used to be originally a Goddess, known to the Babilonians as Allatu and
Al-Lat in Mecca where she was worshipped as a Moon Goddess, (in fact, it is her crescent moon that is still in display in most arab flags) and was originally worshipped at the Kaaba (the famous black stone Kube in Mecca), even Mohammed's own tribal horsemen, the Koreshites worshipped the Triple form of the same goddess as 'Manat' AKA: Cybele(Kybela- The Great Mother of The Gods) and even though the Matriarchal origins has been long gone, the priests at the very Kaaba are still known as "Sons of The Old Great Woman" this was during the pre-islamic times of Zoroastrionism and before and lasted for at least 1000 years (Allah morphed -slowly-into a totally patriarchal based diety about 2000 years ago.

Interesting., huh..,

Interesting little fact, huh?

Allah is neither a He nor a She (although in English translation, Allah is referred to as He). It is unlike Allah to have the attributes of His Creations ( Makhluk).

One of Allah's attributes is 'Qidam' - an Arabic word loosely translated into English means "Always Present", i.e. Allah has no beginning, nor end. Thus to claim that 'Allah use to be originally ..." is in itself on the wrong precept (under Islamic teachings).

Idol worshiping in Mekah during the Jahilliyah period was brought in by traders who observed the rituals on their visits to those lands. They then worshiped those idols as 'representatives' or 'conduits' to Allah - the All-Mighty God. Yes, they too, even then, believe in the concept of the All-Mighty. Corrupted by Iblis, they then brought in these idols as inter-mediators - thus corrupting the basic fundamental of Islam - Tauhid - the Oneness of God.

144.000 male "virgins" who have not been "defiled" by women are the only chosen one to be one with the Lamb in heaven., Rev 14;4

God is like a slave owner who beats his slaves with many stripes; Luke 12;46-47

The Lord commanded Moses, and killed every man, Now kill all the boys and kill every woman who has slept with man, but the little girls who have not slept with a man, you can save for yourselves., Numbers 31;17,17-18

Mary's sister washed the feet of the apostles and Jesus feet and afterward dried them WITH HER OWN HAIR!!

Re our msundrstndng Sharia is: it actually isn't a standard "Islamic-law." It's basically a list of what's forbidden (basically the same stuff *we* forbid & it is up to local leaders to interpret for modern society. The ~don't~ part is outlined in the Q., but the ~or else~ part is regionally set in a local companion document—much like 'state laws' in the US. Some of the Sharia law areas are 'scary conservative' (almost exclusively in a sub-group of Arab countries these days), but most are quite reasonable (considering that they are based on religion).

I'm an atheist & steadfastly opposed to ANY laws stemming from religion, but objectively speaking, Sharia isn't all that strict by definition; often it looks downright liberal by US southern standards. For example, nowhere in Indonesia is it hard or even shameful/awkward for women to acquire birth-control. Asking a married woman what kind of birth-control she uses is even a common topic of polite conversation. Women aren't put through hoops or subjected to shame etc. (like in parts of the US & all of Japan until a couple yr. ago)

Continuing on that: abortion is also technically *illegal* in Indonesia, but women wanting one can meet with a panel of doctors who must protect confidentiality.

I accompanied a friend once who wanted support. I expected the worst—like we were going to be met by a bunch of Christian anti-abortion protesters or something—but to my shock it wasn't that bad. For those who are curious:

• The review panel was a group of 4 (I think) doctors. We were greeted w/ smiles, my friend asked them if I could go in w/ her. They asked her many times if that is 'really' what she wanted (I also think they should have refused me—just in case—but it's a 3rd-world country, no 'standard practices'). They finally let me when they were convinced that it was ~really~ her choice.
• They sensed that it was an awkward first time, so one of them broke the ice and lead the process. They could easily have decided NOT to do that & if my friend had been too shy, the procedure may well have never been requested.
• The Dr said basically: "I understand you came here for an abortion permission. ok, could you please tell us your reason for requesting it?"

• I won't go into details but my friend was not not victimized; the pregnancy was preventable. She said something along the lines of "I had a bad experience & the details are too painful to talk about. But now I am pregnant because of it & I can't raise a baby." (yes, basically she insinuated rape. I don't know where the cutoff would be for 'acceptable' reasons, but she didn't want to be in the grey area)
• The doctors nodded. One said "I'm very sorry for your experience. You do know that abortion is Illegal and considered 'immoral' under ID law, correct" {nod} "Then if you still want one, how can we say no. But the law requires you to wait for one day and come back for the procedure (maybe it was 2 days). Please think about it a lot. We hope you will reconsider."
• They led us out in a respectful manner. We got in the car. My friend looked at me and said: "I'm going to keep it." Then 5 min later she said "no I'm not." This happened several more times and then a day or two later she went back and got the abortion—which is then subsidized with state funds!

Any time a man has to put on a mask to strike a human being much smaller than he is with a cane, again and again, he has to know he is doing something very evil. I think these societies in which the men want to control women like slaves take sadistic pleasure in beating women in public. It reinforces the fear women naturally have of men, and becomes a source of power for me in all aspects of life - family, business, and social relations.

These people should be ashamed of themselves.

What kind of religion supports such slavery?

1. The man was also caned. Ergo, "It reinforces the fear men naturally have of men..."?
2. Look up 'minangkabau culture'. They are also Muslims, and are in Indonesia. :)

The "charges" started out as "having extramarital affairs with a man"

then morphed into "being in close proximity to a man."

And the part about her being "molested by the crowd" prior to being caned is horrendous.
10:59 PM on 04/14/2011
Under sharia law, it is very difficult to charge someone for adultery, short of a confession. The burden of proof is much, much, much higher than what we have in our conventional court.
1. You need 4 male witness (of age) of impeccable character
2. Who actually saw with their own eyes, the actual act of penetration
Now imagine a syaria courtroom drama: The judge ask, "do you have your 4 witness? Prosecutor, "No. But we have three." Judge, "Case dismissed."
Or this: Judge to prosecutor: "Bring your 1st witness of 4 witnesses. Does anyone here has any obejction to this person being a witness in this case?" A person in the courtroom stands up, "He is not suitable as a witness, and here's why..." Jugde: "I agree. Since the prosecutor is short of 1 witness, case dismissed."
That is why 'adultery' case very seldom made it to court.
Of interest: look up the history of how Prophet Muhammad handled a case of a woman to came to him to confess her adultery.

"molested by the crowd" - you meant she was booed?

This is how Islam teaches Muslims to behave in such circumstances:
1. Observe in silent. Look inward.
2. Ask that Allah forgive you for sins you may have committed (knowingly or unknowingly).
3, Ask for forgiveness for your brother/sister-in-Islam that is being punished. Ask that Allah guide him/her on His Straight Path.
4. Ask that Allah also guide you to always be on His Straight Path
