Michelle Obama & Jill Biden Do Springtime Suits (PHOTOS, POLL)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 04/12/2011 4:27 pm   Updated: 06/12/2011 5:12 am

Both Michelle Obama and Jill Biden looked ripe for springtime on Tuesday as the leading ladies launched Joining Forces, a national initiative to support and honor American's service members and their families.

FLOTUS went for a coral sheath covered with a blazer by Michael Kors, while SLOTUS picked a persimmon, double breasted jacket, matching skirt and some serious pumps, of course.

Take a look and tell us what you think.

Quick Poll

I prefer:

Michelle in coral!

Jill in persimmon!

Both! How dare you make me choose?

Neither, really.

MO appears to be listening to whomever is giving her advice on how to dress like a grown up woman - and she's better off for listening.

She looks great! The outfit is (finally!) appropriate; color's wonderful on her; it's well fitted;the length is perfect; the shoes work w/the dress and jacket; hair is good -- it's an actual relief not to see her wearing the usual junk jewelry and hiked up big belt etc.

Mrs. Biden, on the other hand, looks like a slovenly secretary. The suit is wrinkled; badly fitted; too short and the shoes are horrendous w/the outfit.

Women have an unlimited array of things that they choose to wear. The same fabulous woman, I don't care who she is, will sometimes wear something that has me and all assembled oohing and aahing. Another day that same fabulous woman will have on something that I don't care for, but then it is none of my business, and I appreciate my fabulous woman friend all the same. Plus, I know that she will be back in something else I find really appealing the next occasion.

The thing is - what I may find not appealing, others might rave about as I zip my lip and wonder. If pressed for a comment, I have found an honest and inoffensive response. Saying" I don't like that" is crass, unless the garment in question is just all wrong. I find it much better to respond with a variation of "that is not quite my taste" and cushion the remark from there.

This remark might be useful as we behold a fellow poster who loves Jill's shoes but you think the dog got at them, or from your expertise in tailoring feel something was pinched where it should have been tucked.

One thing is for sure. Tomorrow will bring another outfit for us to love, or shake our heads. The constant here is that both of these women are doing an excellent job for the nation, and in that regard both of them could not look better.

Now this suit is gorgeous on her! The salmon color really works for her skin tone. And it accentuates her shape. She hit a home run with this one and she generally seems to be content with base hits.

Ms. O looks great in that suit! Super flattering...love the straight hair too.

I'm iffy on Dr. Biden...looks a little dated to me. Those buttons are oddly placed.

Both look lovely- Dr. Biden always looks great in red and that peach colored suit is a knockout on the FLOTUS-I love the style, but the color is just really nice. It looks very 'springy' and modern.

Two nice outfits - neat, polished, reserved, appropriate. Jill took something of a risk on the shoes - not my favourite pair. Michelle looks more restrained than usual, but very attractive. I enjoy seeing her push the limits, but it's also nice to see her wear something a bit more sedate for a change (as long as it's not a lasting trend!)

And what would she do with all her personal pizazz? If she dressed like that all the time, she would look like she is imprisoned by orthodoxy. I appreciate the freedom she embraces to make her own statement and wear what she likes. There is more than one way to represent, and she works it out.

How did Jill Biden's legs photograph so darkly? She wasn't wearing hose. Her shoes were awful.

Also, the big problem with these suits is that they didn't seem to be well-fitted. In every picture they were bunching up, or hanging oddly. Michele Obama has a short thorax and a long abdominal section, which she copes with by using empire styling to dresses and suits. But I wonder if maybe having the tailoring emphasize her waist rather than the point directly below her bustline wouldn't be more balancing?
