Bachmann Faces Backlash After Calling Planned Parenthood 'LensCrafters Of Big Abortion'

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) derided Planned Parenthood as "the LensCrafters of big abortion" earlier this week during a stop in Iowa, and it seems that the comparison left the prescription eyewear company less than pleased.

Roll Call relays word from a LensCrafters spokeswoman, who signaled to the publication that a request was made to the congresswoman's office that she no longer use the company's name.

"She's using our name without our knowledge or permission," says Julie Maslov, communications director for Luxottica Retail, LensCrafters' parent company.

She didn't cite any legalese but rather says that the request was made "in the spirit of the fact that we have nothing to do with these parties or the debate."

According to Roll Call, a spokesman for Bachmann says the congresswoman will avoid referencing LensCrafters going forward, calling the request "perfectly understandable."

Bachmann's remarks invoking LensCrafters came in an argument she made in support of restricting Planned Parenthood from federal funding.

"The executive director of Planned Parenthood in Illinois said they want to become the LensCrafter of big abortion in Illinois," she said while speaking in the Hawkeye State, according to CNN.

Via the cable news network comes video of the Tea Party darling's remarks.
