Record Store Day 2011: Find Your Nearest Participation Shop

Record Store Day

Miss the smell of vinyl? The clack of a CD case? Can't get enough of out-dated formats? Hipster?

Record Store Day 2011 is Saturday, April 16, and record stores across the country will be offering special deals and events to honor independently owned music stores. Not all participating stores will necessarily have special events going on, however some will feature cook-outs, special guest performances, parades, and meet & greets.

A number of special releases will also be coming out on Saturday, in conjunction with the event.

This year will feature releases from artists such as AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen, Daft Punk, Death Cab For Cutie, Foo Fighters, Gorillaz, Jimi Hendrix, Lady Gaga, Nirvana, Phish, The Rolling Stones, The Velvet underground, and many, many more.

Conceived by Chris Brown, Record Store Day was started in 2007 by Eric Levin, Michael Kurtz, Carrie Colliton, Amy Dorfman, Don Van Cleave and Brian Poehner, according to the event's website. It aims to honor the over 700 independently owned record stores in America, and the unique culture associated with them. RSD is now celebrated every third Saturday of April.
