Lady Gaga: 'Judas' Leaks (LISTEN)

You can't say Lady Gaga isn't provocative.

"Judas," the latest single from Grammy-winner and fashion icon has leaked onto the internet early, adding to the already heated debate about the song, and accompanying video's, alleged sacrilege.

The song and video are told from Mary Magdelene's perspective, with lyrics such as, "When he comes to me, I am ready/ I'll wash his feet with my hair if he needs/ Forgive him when his tongue lies through his brain/ Even after three times, he betrays me/ I'll bring him down, a king with no crown..."

The suggestive lyrics have angered some, including The Catholic League, though, it should be noted, the organization hadn't heard the song or seen the preview clip of the video before issuing a complaint.

"This is a stunt... Lady Gaga tries to continue to shock Catholics and Christians in general: she dresses as a nun... she swallows the rosary. She has now morphed into a caricature of herself," Catholic League President Bill Donohue said in a statement.

However, Gaga's creative director, Laurieann Gibson, said that they specifically worked to not offend the religious, amongst whom she counts herself.

"It went through several changes and late-night debates because at one point, there were two completely different "views and I was like, 'Listen, I don't want lightning to strike me! I believe in the gospel and I'm not going there,'" she told The Hollywood Reporter about the song and video. "And it was amazing because to have that conversation about salvation, peace and the search for the truth in a room of non-believers and believers, to me, that was saying God is active in a big way. And the place that it came to is surreal. We don't touch on things that we have no right touching upon, but the inspiration and the soul and idea that out of your oppression, your darkness, your Judas, you can come into the marvelous light. So it's about the inspiration and to never give up... We've created a new Jerusalem."

Gaga has certainly been unafraid of controversy; along with her stunt meat dress and Grammy egg, she's been a vocal advocate of gay rights, making speeches against Don't Ask, Don't Tell and pulling out of a promotional deal with Target after it was revealed that they made donations to vehemently anti-gay political candidates. She's also used religious imagery in her work before, notably in her concerts.

Gaga, as Mary Magdalene, protects Jesus from Judas by holding a gun to his face but instead of a bullet, a stick of lipstick comes out and she uses it to paint his lips.

Later, Gaga shares a steamy bathtub with Jesus and Judas on either side of her.

What Bill Donahue of the Catholic League does not get is she is making a mockery of people like him not Jesus. People who have twisted the words and doctrine of Jesus into tools for their own profit and power. Lady Gaga is connected more spiritually to the true message of Jesus than Mr Donahue

while i think Madonna is one of the best performers ever and her concerts...I have seen every one..some more than once..Confessions Tour was a masterwork ....Dont discount Gaga;s artistry. I have seen her also and you cannot appreciate her until you see her live...if you have access to HBO watch her show next sat night. as with Madonna...you will see Gaga filling stadiums 25 years from now

So now a nowadays people get famous for doing horrible things.. she has no respect for anyone. If she was a decent human being she would respect other people and reconsider her actions. She is a role model and is influencing our youth with garbage. I have no respect for someone like this. Doing whatever she can to get attention its sad.

you clearly know nothing about her at all. "A decent human being would respect other people and reconsider their actions" She is teaching respect for people, gays and others who do not fit YOUR mold. Thank God she is teaching our youth tolerance and respect from people who deserve it. I have seen her in concert 5 times. So have my kids. A psychiatrist who is over 50 saw her show and said she is one of the most un-narsisitic performers he had ever seen and giving out a totally positive message to many who have suffered at hands of people who spew garbage like you, all while thinking you have NEVER done anything wrong.

never will i understand the neverending debate about who wrote the bible, did the lord jesus really awaken from the dead, or priests who abuse children and its relationship to the Christian faith. Does it make you feel any better to bash a faith and its followers? Does it really bother you that so many people feel offended by a pop culture and its followers stupidity to like anything blasted from the radio. why does it bother you so much? after you claim, that Christianity is false and full of lies, and all priest abuse children. It's very clear to me that Judas represents Christianity but it doesn't surprise me that so many people don't get it. Whether Catholic or Protestant we've been brainwashed that there's nothing wrong with religion and anyone who claims they are Christian is sincere. Gaga could be like most people of her generation and turn away from all this craziness but she still clings to religion in spite of its faults and in this way is more genuine than people who use religion for power over others or because they've been brainwashed to follow those people out of fear. There are people like Mother Teresa who expressed doubts and that showed they lived their lives out of love for others. Many other Christians don't seem to have much love for others and are just afraid to go to Hell.
