Why is that a surprise?  Every store that's gone under has sold off the fixtures and shelving.  Sometimes it's because a potential new tenant could have a proprietary shelving and fixture system.

But it won't eliminate hardcopy because hardcopy isn't locked behind several hundred dollars' worth of electronics requiring an uninterrupted power source to read.

And when you say soon do you mean next year or in your lifetime. I think they'll still be printing books long after the last DVD player is manufactured; some technologies are more durable than others. Chainsaws have been around for quite a while but they still make axes.
