Facebook Helps Couple Find Pet Pig

A couple has Facebook to thank for reuniting them with their unconventional pet.

Ridley Township, PA residents Brian Maguire and Brenadette Broadhurst recently discovered that their pet Vietnamese micro potbellied pig, named Steve, had escaped from his backyard pen.

According to CBS Philly, police found the piglet and, rather than return him home, handed him over to a nearby farm.

When the couple inquired about their pet, police cited a local law prohibiting residents from keeping farm animals. However, Gather.com reports that Maguire had bought the mini pig in a pet store for $424, plus tax.

“The (Pennsylvania) Department of Agriculture states that if you paid tax on this animal when you buy him, he’s a pet. They only tax pets; they don’t tax livestock or farm animals,” Maguire said, according to CBS.

Maguire and Broadhurst careated a Facebook page called "Where's Steve? Give him back Ridley," which attracted 2,000 followers in a matter of days.

According to Gather, "many of [the page's fans] said they emailed and called the Ridley Township police asking for the potbellied pig's swift return."

Eventually, the police relented and returned the pig.
