New HBO series "Game of Thrones" has been renewed for a second season--after just one episode.

After 2.2 million viewers tuned into the premiere of the hotly anticipated fantasy series, HBO announced Tuesday that it had picked the show up for an additional season.

HBO is clearly showing its faith in the series, which cost an estimated $50 million to mount.

Mark Blankenship, please do a write up on Game of Thrones episodes, like you did with Big Love and you do with True Blood.

I like the series so far. I ordered the first four books in the series and I'm about 2/3rds of the way through the first book. My favorite characters are Tyrion and Ayra. I don't know if I'll still like it as much when it starts getting brutal. It will depend on how they do the scenes. If they do them like the series Gladiator did scenes of violence, then probably not. Will I still watch for the nonviolent parts? Maybe.

Out of Game of Thrones, Camelot and The Borgias, I am going with Game of Thrones as the BEST of the three. The production values are amazing as is the acting and the story.

the second episode is even better than the first. I can't wait to see the second season and hope they continue with the great actors. I would like to note however that so far I haven't been that happy with actor that plays Sandor Clegane. Oh well I hope he'll grow into his role eventually.

The show was okay. The books... are... 10000000000 times better. Read them. The fifth one comes out this summer... HOPEFULLY. Been waiting literally since I graduated highschool (in '06) for it to come out.

This show was freakin' intense. It was very difficult watching the young bride being traded around. I haven't read any of the books, but I'll keep watching.

This was interesting, but the best NEW show so far is AMC's "The Killing" - it's first class all the way. Sunday night at 10.00.

These books are some of the most fantastic pieces of character driven fiction that you will ever read. Martin is famously brutal to his characters and it makes the whole experience that much more realistic in that you are actually fearful for the ones you like. (and you should be).

This story could really happen anywhere, because it is centered solely on the POV characters. The fact that it happens to exist in a fantasy world just adds to the overall complexity.

Even though the books are close to a thousand pages each, Martin paces the story so effectively that you will rarely become bored or disinterested once you get past the first few chapters (which can certainly be a bit overwhelming given all the different character names).

One of the benefits of watching the series though is that you can easily connect the faces you have already seen to what you are reading in the novels and it makes them much easier to follow. And, of course, I don't even need to say that the novels offer vastly more depth than anything you will see on TV.

The story is also very brutal. Back when I first read it I knew that if it were ever to come to life as a mini series (it could never be condensed into a movie) that only HBO could show it and some elements are toned down even from the novels.

Excellent synopsis.

Not to be a spoiler, but I am down to only a few favorite characters and Houses. I can remember reading along, and saying mid-sentence, "Hey, wait a minute, that wasn't fair." I then proceeded in reveling in the revenge put upon my designated villains.

The story is quite intriguing, and when you think you have someone figured out, something happens you never thought was in their nature. Davos the Onion Knight and the Hound were such characters for me.

George R.R. Martin has a winner with this series, and HBO is the only organization whom I would have trusted to bring his characters into the correct perspectives, as he envisioned. The TV show is a winner for me, even after just the first episode. I was going to cancel HBO last November, but I kept it exclusively for Game of Thrones.

"The TV show is a winner for me, even after just the first episode."

I had some concerns about the first few scenes. A lot of important dialogue with Ser Waymar was skipped. He was supposed to mention that he was on his first ranging and didn't want to return without all the answers.

Also Waymar was supposed to put up more of a fight. The OIther was supposed to wear him down and laugh to show the futility of fighting it. Not just kill him by surprise.

Even so, with that bit of nitpicking, I am satisfied with the show. The trick to not being disappointed (at least for me) is to treat the show and the book as two separate entities. The new scenes keep people who have read the book from being too bored and the pacing of the show will draw new people to the book who would normally be put off by its length and detail.

I think the best part of this is that we will finally get book 5 in a few months. It has been a very long wait and I won't be the first one to say that many are worried that Martin may not be around long enough to finish...
