Tina Fey Explains To Craig Ferguson Why She's Not On Twitter (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post
First Posted: 04/19/11 03:56 PM ET Updated: 06/19/11 06:12 AM ET

The mighty Tina Fey dropped by "The Late Late Show" with Craig Ferguson on Monday night, continuing her promotion of her new book, "Bossypants."

But neither Fey's memoir nor her newly announced pregnancy was the funniest topic of discussion. During the interview, Fey revealed why she hasn't joined pretty much every other comedian and finally made a Twitter account.

So why is the "30 Rock" star so resistant? Aside from feeling like she could get into it "too much," Fey insinuated that Twitter would give away too much of her humor:

"I guess I just feel like if I had any jokes, I would hold them," Fey said.

In the rest of the clip, Ferguson (who's no stranger to the social network) tries to talk Fey into joining up by assuring her it's not addictive like heroin and that you don't have to tweet about what you ate that day. Still, it doesn't look like those fake Tina Fey accounts will be replaced anytime soon. Watch the full clip below.

I will never understand why people past their puberty have so much joy in exposing themselves to the world.

I call it the wanna-be-famous-illness.

Good for her, over exposure cheapens the craft.

Twitter is yet just another way to expose yourself.... intensionally.... unintensionally. Good for Tina... its amazing the masses buy into this form of communication... then complain about privacy.

If you operate a business or are in the entertainment business -- exposure is good. I resisted using Twitter for some time, but since taking the plunge have found it a very useful networking, marketing and communication tool for my business and clients.

I beg to differ. Everybody jumping on the bandwagon is very sad. I have seen some Twitter pages and they look horrible and reading is not that easy.

There is nothing wrong with a decent website with for instance, products/services, news & reviews (written by consumers). In many cases, and this is one of them, something new doesn't mean that's it's better than the old.

Just got home from seeing Steve Martin interview her at the Nokia in LA. What I love about her is her humor is just very grounded but quick wit. She never seems to be "on" or going out of her way to artificially set up a joke. Seeing the two of them together was great. There was a book signing but the Nokia holds about 5,000 so I passed on that.

I just don't get why people are so crazy about twitter?...... I used it and wasn't impressed with it at all. I discontinued my account.

Are you implying that there is nothing wrong with me by not utilizing Twitter? Because, more and more, I am discovering that is by far the biggest technologically waste of time there is...
I have kept my TwetDeck on my iPhone and I have kept my account. But, I simply cannot get into it...
The question is then which part is "Normal"?
To Tweet or Not To Tweet? That is the question?!

I admire Tina Fey for having better things to do with her life than Tweeting. She's always seemed to stand out for her sheer sensible intelligence, which naturally makes her so aware of what an absurdist asylum the world truly is. I can't believe she doesn't find the whole Twitter phenomenon one of the most ludicrous aspects of our amazingly ludicrous era.

oh the irony and agony.. even as i try - just now - to click favorite on your post *jeanrenoir* instead an insistent pop-up urging me to share my comment on Facebook and/or Twitter took over. you gotta laugh sometimes at the sheer vastness of monkey biz we gotta fling in our daily lives today.

I like Tina Fey but she could never top the brilliant comedic use of 140 characters by @AlbertBrooks on Twitter.

I find most twitter posts I've seen are people trying to be cute and funny. Forced humor doesn't attract me so I'm not a twitterer.

If she's not the official darling of the left, I don't know who is. She's perceived as the anti-Palin.

She is indeed the anti-Palin, the one smart enough to impale the vapidity and narcissism of Palin perfectly.

I'm fairly conservative and I have no beef with Tina Fey. She doesn't wear her politics on her sleeve and is an equal opportunity lamponer. She speaks very highly of her conservative Republican father and his ability to out-debate her. And any right winger who doesn't see Sarah Palin as a ripe target for parody or satire has no sense of humor.

I love Tina! And after seeing Ferguson here for the first time he seems pretty great too!
