Perfect Pet Rescue founder Nancy Sarnoff first began volunteering rescue coordinator for an organization in the San Fernando Valley about 18 years ago. Two years later, Sarnoff headed to West Los Angeles Shelter, where, as a volunteer, she became convinced there had to be more that people could do for the animals that were turned over to the shelter. So, in 1993, she teamed up with another concerned volunteer and a veterinarian on Sepulveda Boulevard to create Perfect Pet Rescue. In 1996, the organization officially became a non-profit animal rescue foundation.
Sarnoff is proud to announce that the organization has placed about 9,000 dogs in homes since it was first founded. However, she concedes, Perfect Pet Rescue still faces challenges. She told HuffPost about one of foundation's more recent challenges: "with the downturn of the economy and these troubled times, we have been called upon to re-home a dog we adopted out 10 years ago."
Still, the organization continues to strive towards its goal of one day making the need for dog shelters obsolete. "In addition to rescuing as many dogs as we can from shelters," Sarnoff adds, "we have created a special fund within our organization to offer spay/neuter assistance to anyone who asks. 'Spay or neuter, spay or neuter' is our mantra and we pray that we will see the day when all dogs have homes."

1-2 years old, White and Gold, Shih Tzu. Miso is a spicy Shi Tzu mix, 1-2 years old. Although his owners turned him into the shelter, they left no information about him, no forwarding address. He can be very gentle, affectionate and loving to his beloved mom, but is not able to share that love with others. Therefore he should be in a home where he is your only man and you are his woman. He has his guard up when other people are around and sometimes other dogs as well. He is very handsome and cute but he needs a special home where his affection will be appreciated. Miso weighs 13 pounds, is neutered, micro chipped and current on all shots. We believe he is potty trained.
2 years old, Tan and White, Border Terrier mix, Heather is a sturdy little terrier mix whose coat looks just a little bit windblown. But this little girl is not going to be blown away or stray far from your side. Heather is a loyal friend, eager to please the whole family. Her terrier coat will also be easy to maintain, no need for the fancy grooming trucks to stop at your home. Heather is about 2 years old. She weighs 10 pounds, is spayed, micro chipped and current on all vaccines.
2-3 years old, Cream, Spaniel / Dachshund mix. Quincy has amber eyes the color of the sweetest Quince jam. Those eyes plead with a smile... please choose me! Quincy stood hopefully in the shelter from March 2nd until today, April 18th. Today, he was at his last day to be in the shelter. He was taking his last walk when we saw those gentle, sweet amber eyes. If you want to know true love then you will meet it in Quincy. He's mostly Spaniel, a bit low to the ground like Dachshund, but he is pure love. He is 2-3 years old, neutered, micro chipped and current on all vaccines. Quincy weighs 19 pounds.
2-3 years old, White and Tan, Chihuahua, You can whistle Dixie and this tan and white Chihuahua will come running. She's 2-3 years old and always considered herself a loyal family dog. Unfortunately, her family neglected to spay her. When she became pregnant, they turned her into the shelter. Who knows what the father was but the babies were too large for her tiny stomach. She was rushed into emergency surgery in the shelter and the shelter and the vets were able to save her but not the pups. Dixie was given a new life and she's ready for it. She is also now spayed, micro chipped and current on all vaccines. Dixie weighs all of 6 pounds.
2 years old Cream with Black markings. Pug/Shi/tsu mix. Ewok is a pug mix who's about 2 years old and weighs 15 pounds. He's a playful funny guy who initially is on the shy side when he meets strangers but after a few reassuring pets he's their best friend! Ewok was found running around the streets in Central California by a fellow rescuer. Not wanting to take him to their local pound, I was contacted and asked if I would take him. Who could resist that smushed little face! Ewok gets along well with other dogs and is very passive so he can get intimidated by alpha bullies. Ewok loves to be wherever you are and taking him for nice long walks is a pleasure since he's so well behaved on a leash. Ewok is not a barker and has no issues. He's just an mellow little guy searching for a forever home to share all his love with. He is neutered, micro chipped and current on all shots.
1 year old, White and Tan, Terrier / Dachshund mix, Morely is a happy soul in a young dog's body. He's also smaller than he looks with his white coat freshly fluffed and his coloring is quite unusual. Two tan ears, one tan spot on his body and the rest is white. He weighs 12 1/2 pounds. He's low to the ground with a coat and build of a wire haired Dachshund. Morley is very friendly, loves to play with other dogs and is a great family dog. He is in a foster home and his parents rave about him. He loves to steal socks and play with them, he is great about giving kisses and the best news is he is house broken. He's about a year old, neutered, micro chipped and current on all vaccines.
