Obama Family To Attend Space Shuttle Launch on April 29

Obama, Family To Attend Endeavour Space Shuttle Launch April 29

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama and his family will attend the April 29th launch of space shuttle Endeavor, the second-to-last launch for NASA before its shuts down its shuttle program for good, a White House official confirmed Wednesday.

The president, First Lady Michelle Obama and both of their daughters are expected to attend the launch scheduled for 3:47 p.m. out of Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The launch is significant for a few reasons: In addition to being one of NASA’s final shuttle launches, it also marks Obama’s first launch attendance. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), who has been undergoing rehabilitation in Houston after falling victim to an alleged assassination attempt in January in Tucson, is also planning to attend. She will watch her husband, Endeavour Commander Mark Kelly, as he heads into space.

"The congresswoman has wanted President Obama to come to a launch for a long time," said Giffords spokesman C.J. Karamargin.
