Kate Beckinsale may have some big, evil shoes to fill.

According to Deadline, "Underworld" star has been offered the role of Lori in husband Len Wiseman's remake of the 1990's Arnold Schwarzenegger-led sci-fi action classic, "Total Recall." Lori, originally portrayed by Sharon Stone, is the sham wife of Doug Quaid (Schwarzenegger) and girlfriend of Richter, the ruthless deputy from Mars out to kill Quaid.

Colin Farrell has been cast in the Schwarzenegger role, while Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson are possibilities for Melina, a Mars freedom fighter originally played by Rachel Ticotin. Bryan Cranston will play Vilos Cohaagen, the main villain.

Beckinsale will next in another action film; she co-stars with Mark Wahlberg in the thriller "Contraband," which is a remake of the Icelandic film "Reykjavik-Rotterdam."

So much dirt, so little time.

Any actress could stop Sharon Stone. She never could act which is why she hasn't been in a movie for years. She was window dressing and really only got her biggest role, Basic Instinct, because no other actress would touch the nude and sex scenes.

Is it true that Hollywood is re-writing "The Bible" for the ADHD crowd ---- And the song "Happy Birthday To You"? How about a new "Gone With The Wind" starring my brother Ferd, who can f@rt on key?

As much as they'd probably royally screw it up, I'd love a remake of Bladerunner.

Total Recall?

Not so much.

This film and Robocop (same original director Paul Verhoven) in my opinion cannot be remade effectively. The original Total Recall and Robocop were kitchy and cartoonish in their own particular way and in fact that was the point of those films in that they were grotesque funhouse reflections of our own culture.

Case in point: In Total Recall, while being shot at on an escalator Arnold uses an assassin as a shield then hurls the body at the other assassins, when the body reaches the top Verhoven makes it a point to show you that the assassin is now just an obstacle to his former comrades as he shows their feet mindlessly stepping on the body in pursuit of their quarry.

In Robocop a hostage negotiation takes on all the trappings of a car deal (“let the mayor go and I’ll even throw in a Blaupunkt”) When Robocop throws the gunman out of the window what does Verhoven show you? Several news cameramen following the arc of the falling body with their cameras and continuing to film even as it lands at their feet.

Going the serious route won’t work here as it did in the last two Batman films and any attempts to recapture the spirit of the originals will be flatly transparent and probably too broad because the originals were already broad enough.

well said

still I'm interested in seeing how they handle the re-make. You never know.

The Running Man should be re-made. Arnold should never have been the lead in that great short story adaptation.

oops, great short story that was adapted for the screen to suit him, instead of the story.

Try this Hollywood:

Produce/Write/Direct a new film...it doesn't have to be super original, but original enough that it can stand on its own, BUT before you release it, remake it during production. Then release said original film, followed by the remake.

Obviously you'll have to use different writers, producers, directors, and actors for each film. This way you can be up front with your business tactics.

Why is there a need for a remake?

I guess it's because no one in tinseltown has an original thought left.

Drives me insane! Absolutely no new material can make any money it seems. And good writers are hard to come by.

This is ridiculous! The only thing we can be sure of is that remakes of batman, superman and spiderman will be produced for the rest of our lives.

Little Colin Ferrel to play the part that big Arnold made a classic? That's laughable to say the least. Now Kate on the other hand would be perfect for the part. They shouldn't even try a remake.

I've seen Schwarzenegger in person and he can't be called "Big Arnold." I was quite shocked. He's no more than 5'10" tall. That's why they often pan up from the ground when they film him. It makes him look bigger than he is.

I agree that there's no reason to remake this movie. I don't think people are clamoring for this one.

Take a look at him on the Mr. Universe stage from the 70's. Maybe everyone else was only 5' 6'', but he towered over them from just a normal head on camera angle.

Why are they remaking a classic?

Because hollywood has ran out of ideas.

why why why.... can't hollywood come up with any original ideas these days? and doing remakes of legendary films at that, this is already guaranteed to be a complete failure in every way conceivable. the US film industry is a total joke these days.
