Los Angeles Weekend Events: Grilled Cheese Invitational, Visual Art At Hollywood Cemetery And Live Shows

First Posted: 04/21/11 01:00 PM ET   Updated: 06/21/11 06:12 AM ET

This weekend's highlights include a Grilled Cheese Invitational that invites Angelenos to enjoy over forty versions of the classic lunch dish made by professionals and amateurs alike. Also on the calendar are plenty of live shows ranging from the genre of hip hop to classical to alternative. The Hollywood Forever Cemetery hosts a bevy of visual artists and The Standard downtown is throwing a big party with plenty of DJs. If you feel like doing more than just an Easter Sunday brunch this weekend, check out our slideshow of activities below.

Thursday: Friend Slash Lover at Bootleg Theater
1 of 11
Start the weekend off early with a Thursday night show in downtown LA. If you couldn't make it to Coachella or you're just having major withdrawals, get a fix of a lesser-known indie band inspired by Radiohead. Check out Friend Slash Lover, because it's never too soon to start finding new bands and forecasting next year's Coachella line up.

Friend Slash Lover Concert
When: Thursday, April 21, 10:30pm
Where: Bootleg Theater, 2220 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA
Cost: $8

I went to the Grilled Cheese Invitational. It was okay. We were not able to get a judging ticket before they sold out, so missed out on a lot of the fun of the event. The general admission gets you in to the gate, a few samples and access to vendors. The judging admission gets you into a cordoned off area where you can watch the competitors create their grilled cheese masterpieces, and sample some of the finished items.

We will try and go again next year, as long as we can get a judging ticket.

It never occured to me that there was career path in "grilled cheese pro" competition.
