Potential presidential contender Donald Trump hit back at Robert De Niro on Monday on the heels of the Hollywood A-lister making critical remarks about his presidential ambitions for the next election cycle.

"Well he’s not the brightest bulb on the planet," said Trump of De Niro during a phone interview on "Fox & Friends." "I’ve been watching him over the years and I like his acting, but you know in terms of when I watch him doing interviews and various other things, we’re not dealing with Albert Einstein."

Over the weekend at the Tribeca Film Festival, De Niro weighed in on the prospect of a Trump 2012 campaign in a live interview with NBC News anchor Brian Williams.

"I won't mention names, but there are certain people on the news in the last couple of weeks -- what they're doing is crazy," he said of the potential presidential candidate, according to the Daily Beast. "They're making statements about people that they don't even back up. Go get the facts before you start saying things about people."

Williams sought clarification from De Niro that his remarks were applicable to Trump. Presumably referring to the billionaire's "Celebrity Apprentice " reality show he asked the Oscar-winning actor, "Any of those people have shows on my network on Sunday night?"

De Niro's response: "Yes." He then explained, "It’s like a big hustle. It’s like being a car salesman. Don’t go out there and say things unless you can back them up. How dare you? That’s awful to do. To just go out and speak and say these terrible things? Unless you just wanna get over and get the job. It’s crazy.”

Trump, who has captured headlines and sparked controversy with his persistence in raising doubt over President Barack Obama's birthplace, said on Monday morning in response to De Niro's remarks, "He can say what he wants, but the fact is that this guy has not revealed his birth certificate and a lot of people agree with me.”

Trump also sought to defend himself against scrutiny of his voting record on "Fox & Friends." It was revealed over the weekend that the potential candidate hasn't voted in a primary election since 1989.

"In terms of the general election, my record is very good," he said. "Generally-speaking, I like to vote. I'm a believer in voting, I will tell you."

Does Donald Trumpo Sufffer From Bipolar / Manic-Depressive Disorder (?)

Bipolar disorder or manic-depressive disorder is characterized as a psychiatric diagnosis describing a set of categorical mood disorders manifesting the presence of more than a single episode of abnormal elevated energy levels, including cognition and mood which sometimes includes deep mental depression.

Such episodes, are usually separated by periods of a "normal" mood. However, most people experiencing depression and mania in which both characteristics rapidly alternate; this is known as, rapid cycling. in rapid cycling, extreme manic episodes may lead to other psychotic symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations.

This leads us to the primary question of my essay which is whether, Donald Trump, hopeful Republican candidate wanting to become the next United States President after Barack Obama, is manic depressive?

I'm going to blame senility for Trump's recent behavior.

He is so obviously moved by seeing the recent trench flowing huge pile of cash in political campaign for his own pockets.

Why do actors think they know anything about politics?

Why do you think they don't? And what would be your qualifications to comment on the subject?

Maybe because politicians are actors?

Donald Trump, the Joe McCarthy of our era. No evidence for what he says about the President, no one asks for proof making our press complicit.

Actually, the press has asked for this information, and Obama refuses to release it.

He acts like a guy who has something to hide - he hides stuff.

If you make charges, you better be able to prove it, thus "Innocent until PROVEN guilty". I could say you were a bad student just because I'm mean - you remember, like kids in Jr High. Obama wrote quite open books about his life so far, didn't hide things. Admittedly Trump wrote many book, including how he thinks you should come back from failure, ie through bankruptcy to shaft your creditors legally. Plus, Trumpster said he'd release his financial reports when BHO released his long form - waiting, waiting...

I just found the perfect commercial for Donald Trump's presidential campaign.

B level actors like Ronald Reagan get praise from the Republican Party, not Oscar winners. Donald's just upset his silver spoon didn't come with talent. He's a bloviating baffoon; a man of privelaged means whose greatest accomplishment is that he was born rich. Trump greatest innovation is a technique which can turn bankruptcies into a resume building attributes.

Ronald Reagan was a bad actor he did have some experience with running their union. If you can't act you go into politcs.
Seems like that happens a lot

This has gone on far too long without the enormous protest that should be coming from a much larger group of people. I for one am getting completely disgusted with the media taking this guy seriously instead of calling it like it is, racism plain and simple! The President is dealing with the absolute unravelling of the Middle east, we have the war in Afghanistan, huge environmental issues, and the Supreme Court removing rights every day! Not to mention Wisconsin! I really think that the Republicans have completely nothing left, therefore, they are trotting out circus acts like Trump to attempt the spotlight. And it's working! Why, for one minute, do the networks cover this bag of hot air?! The Republicans do not want the public to notice that our president has his hands full, is dealing admirably with an intense international situation, has proposed good legislation, and has shown himself to be exceedingly capable. The only complaint I have is that he is not more forceful in his dealings with the "other side of the aisle," as he so courteously puts it. Enough with the courtesy - these people are downright bad!

Trump says he's a Republican but he gives most of his money to
Democrates trust me he will never get any votes from true Republicans
If you think Obama is doing a good job I have a bridge in Brooklyn I can
sell you real cheap.
05:43 AM on 04/28/2011
Which bridge in Brooklyn are you qualified to sell? Proof of ownership, please. A copy will be acceptable, if certified by the State of New York.
03:32 AM on 04/28/2011
Amen! Enough is enough already. This guy is another joke. Joke's on us. I couldn't even get through the article. Nothing of substance there. Pure nonsense. What is this circus that masquerades as democracy in our country? What is up with the media anyway?

OK - so when Gilbert Godfried makes fun of Tsunami victims, he gets Hollywood's support.
And when all these comedians start in with the racist N word, it's funny
but the minute Donald Trump opens his mouth - Hollywood can't stand him?
Say one thing, this is why we need at least 4 years of Trump at the helm - he's a lot funnier than any of the comedians working in Hollywood - that's the funniest thing I heard in a long time. I burst out laughing.

De Niro might well be dumb... he can still see through Trump's BS.

Go Donald, quack like a duck!

I don't see why anyone would think De Niro is dumb. He's one of the great Actors America has ever produced - clearly a lot smarter than most.
04:04 AM on 04/28/2011
He discovered his passion for acting at age 10 and never pursued higher levels of formal education after age 16. In the process of refining his skills and developing his talent, he went on to become one of the greatest method actors of all time.

Some might consider he was blessed to find passion at a very early age and in a career that has blossomed over an entire lifetime. Others might say he's not only pretty smart, to have realized this at such an early age, but also courageous in having the guts to go "all in" thereafter.

Of course, The Donald has also taken very risky bets in his career...usually with other people's money. Crony capitalists have always been good at this.

I wasn't meaning to imply De Niro is dumb. It was a "for the sake of argument" thing. Just a rhetorical device to emphasis what a f-wit I consider Trump to be.

Really, for all his self-aggrandising and braggadocio Trump is not brilliant, I'm utterly contemptuous of his frankly mediocre work. And his taste... have you seen his abode? Ugh!
12:12 AM on 04/28/2011
DeNiro has probably a higher intellect than Trump.
11:52 PM on 04/27/2011
Trump has lost any credibility or respect most people with brains might have had for him. and I use "might" very loosely.
