Motorola Xoom Tablet Struggling, Analyst Says

Motorola's Xoom tablet stunned at CES with powerful specs, high-speed 4G LTE connectivity and its status as the first Android Honeycomb device to come to market. The Xoom hit stores on February 24th at a pricey $799 (the Wi-Fi only model is $599) and generally garnered solid reviews, but several analysts suggest it hasn't taken off with consumers.

There's no official word from Motorola Mobility yet on sales, but early estimates aren't looking good.

Just a few weeks after Deutsche Bank estimated only 100,000 of the devices had been sold, Global Equities' Trip Chowdhry says that between 25,000 and 120,000 Xooms have been sold, and Sanford Bernstein's Pierre Ferragu pegs the number around 200,000. Chowdhry also claims the Verizon iPhone took the wind out of Android's sails, labels Google's app store a "disaster," lambasts Google's Honyecomb OS and questions Motorola's "survivability."

He also calls Honeycomb, Google's tablet operating system, "dead on arrival," "incomplete" and "unstable."

Expect to get official numbers as Motorola Mobility announces its first quarter earnings on Thursday.
