Duckling vs. Dog: Fuzz Ball Takes On Pup (VIDEO)

This is a David and Goliath story for the modern animal kingdom.

To be honest, we don't quite know what's going on here. Is the little guy lonely? Does he want a friend? Is he trying to fend off the pup? Does he think he's a dog? Why is this dog so freaked out? Do they own a cat?

There's just too many questions and not enough answers.

But one thing's for sure, this little ball of fuzz has tremendous courage, and never backs down even when the dog barks.

I'm trying to view this video objectively and I can't help thinking that this duckling is 'following' this dog around and chirping at the dog as if the duckling has imprinted on the dog! The dog and the duckling are NOT communicating very well with each other. It's time for the humans to take over and separate these two animals to get each of the animals into their appropriate environments.

You hit the nail on the head with your comment. The duckling thinks the dog is its mama, that is obvious from the way it is trying to find refuge between the dog's legs.... poor little thing has completely imprinted on the dog...

Agreed. Having raised several generations of ducks, it appears the duckling is trying to catch up to what he THINKS is "mom".
His loud peeping is a distress call ...usually done when mom is out of sight, and the duckling is frightened.
He obviously thinks the dog is his mom (imprinting) and can't understand why "she's" running away.
Actually quite sad.

I had a 120 lb Bullmastiff several years ago. That duck would have made my big muscled hound from hell faint!

We used to have a Rottweiler that was the same way...brave defending our home, but cowering and slinking away fearfully from a tiny kitten. RIP Erda.

She's a Jack Russell Terrier. That's exactly how they play. I have a JRT and they can be hilarious even though they can be quite noisy at times. Great clip! What a duck!
