Ryan Reynolds: Green Lantern Like Han Solo, Indiana Jones

Ryan Reynolds

Harrison Ford is one of the most beloved action stars of all time; his wry, witty and brave portrayals of Han Solo and Indiana Jones rank amongst the most iconic and popular film characters of all time. So Ryan Reynolds is certainly setting the bar high when he says he's hoping to make like Han and Indy in his new film.

Reynolds, who stars as the titular "Green Lantern," this summer, spoke to the Los Angeles Times about, among other things, setting the tone for the personality of his sudden hero. He had to construct a careful balance between goofy and fearless, he said.

"The character is somewhere in the middle," he told the paper. "He's a classic male. Han Solo, who was witty but not really funny, was one of the touchstones."

Reynolds continued to promote that personality, again offering Solo as an example.

"It's about courage versus fearlessness and the power of willpower and the need for sacrifice and service. This is not a comedy film but like Han Solo or an Indiana Jones, there are moments where you smile and the hero can trades lines with anybody."

"Green Lantern" may not be a comedy, but another summer Reynolds release is certainly of that genre. He'll also star in "The Change-Up," alongside Jason Bateman and Leslie Mann, about two guys whose lives are flipped after peeing together in a fountain.

Seems like hypnotic suggestion, telling people to make comparison between him and Han Solo / Indiana. I don't think it will work.

The trailer looks kind of shabby. The aliens--and bad guy--look really dumb & ugly...(I think the Green Lantern will make less than the Green Hornet.)

In a word, NO

Not to venture too far off topic, but someone has to say it. Hollywood's current hopeless creative dead end can be traced directly back to the original Star Wars.

When are people going to just copy Batman and get a REAL actor and REAL writer. These movies are so silly.

Watch Justice League: New Frontier...a CARTOON and you will see great writing...great actors (voices anyway) and such a well told story you will spit on this cr@p that they came up with. Green Lantern is one a several characters in it and still it's the best Lantern story told on film ever.

GOd I h@te hollywood.

Well, episode III was not that bad and episode I has Dark Maul.

the story line of Star Wars: Dark Empire is really good for a movie but you are right maybe the franchise needs a new Director like Christopher Nolan, after the disaster of the last Indiana Jones movie I lost confidence in George Lucas.

The man is terminally hot and still looks approachable, Given the chance, I would tap that sooooo hard.

And to those who say he cant act? Watch BURIED.. if you think you can handle it. Incredibly intense all the way through, and Reynolds shows he's ready for a move into serious drama.

It's physically impossible to be someone else, silly. So I guess he can be the best of himself and nothing more. And on that note he has to be the worst of himself to or it wouldn't be part of him.
