Shep Smith: Obama Is 'Citizen Of The United States. Period' (VIDEO)

First Posted: 04/27/11 10:23 AM ET Updated: 06/27/11 06:12 AM ET

A clearly annoyed Shep Smith repeated what was already known on his Monday show: that President Obama was born in the United States.

Smith played video of the Rev. Franklin Graham questioning why President Obama has not "produced" a birth certificate.

"Well, he has produced a birth certificate," Smith said, his voice rising. "...It is stamped and sealed...and Fox News can confirm the president of the United States is a citizen of the United States. Period."

WATCH:

One note: Smith referred to the "late Billy Graham," though the legendary reverend (and father of Franklin Graham) is alive.

Fox News Tries To Distance Itself From Its Promotion Of Birther Conspiracy. Fox News' website Fox Nation pointed to a recent study by Pew's Project for Excellence in Journalism in trying to downplay Fox News' role in promoting the birther conspiracy. The post republished part of the study finding that, among the three cable networks, Fox devoted the "least" amount of coverage to the birther claims and boasted of Fox's apparent low amount of coverage to the birther issue during the week of April 11-17. But while the study included Fox evening shows Special ReportThe O'Reilly Factor, andHannity, it did not include other Fox News opinion shows that also contributed air time to the controversy, including Fox & Friends and On the Record with Greta Van Susteren. The study also did not examine Fox Nation itself. [Fox Nation, 4/28/11]

But what did they tabulate on the MSM?  Did they count the amount of time on blogs on MSM?  MediaMatters is again grasping at anything to rationalize and spin.

He's saying things that ARE intended to be factual statements. Perhaps he's wishing to hear "You're fired" ... the best thing that could happened to him.

No,he's not, and you have trouble discerning the difference between the truth and what you prefer to believe.

I suppose the same way you have trouble discerning fact from fiction.

Franklin or Billy Graham...they are all the same. They think that they are God's favorite children.Nothing but white racist having their own agenda.

Only 2 events happened that I can remember the great Billy Graham.

In the 80's with months of preparation in Singapore for the arrival of Billy..It felt like the second coming of Christ. 65,000 gathered at the sports stadium to listen a 45 minutes sermon and it cost US$2 million to the believers. I am having a hard time telling evangelicals that the believe in Christ or the path to Heaven is free.In Singapore you are compelled to donate 10% of your hard earn salary to these churches. Come visit us. It makes Rev Jones small. Religion is now a commercial venture... very little about doing good things and going to Heaven.

Billy second revelation . He was caught on tape telling Pre. Nixon.." What are you going to do about the Jews ? This is a racist with a capital R. Here again you hear daily blasting in Fox News about America being a Judea Christian nation. What hypocrisy. After the blacks, and the Hispanics , believe me, it will be the Jews that they want to get rid off.

But he's not! Franklin is no Billy. Nor will he ever be no matter how much he prays to his imaginary friend. Franklin just uses Jesus as a "cash cow". He's a true capitalist. No morals, no compassion, no truth, no sharing. Franklin is out for Franklin and no one else. And sheeple still think he is holy. Go figure.

Shep Smith is the only true journalist on the Fox news channel and he's the only one worth watching. Although he works for the GOP propaganda machine, he maintains his integrity which is something I can't say for the rest of the FOX clowns.

Just a question...Are so-called Christians allowed to read anything other than the bible? Just saying.

If only the rest of the staff at Fox would say the same Shep.

You really should leave Fox. You are giving them a legitimacy they don't deserve and they are slandering you just by having you on their propaganda station.
07:31 PM on 04/28/2011
It's not as though Shep Smith is some rogue anchor at Fox telling the truth. The management knows full well what he's saying and support it, because it serves their agenda (which is still fully right wing).

It makes it harder to tell the fact from the fiction when some people tell the truth and some don't. Their goal is to obscure the truth, not hide it.

Shepard Smith. Do you know where you work? No network on television has done more to discredit the legitimacy of the Obama presidency than Fox News. You should have a long talk with Roger Ailes.
