Michele Bachmann Cites 'Obama's Teleprompter' When Asked About Revolutionary War Gaffe (VIDEO)

Michele Bachmann Teleprompter

First Posted: 05/01/11 07:04 PM ET Updated: 07/01/11 06:12 AM ET

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) addressed a gaffe that landed her in the headlines several months ago during an appearance on this weekend's edition of "Fox News Sunday."

Back in March, Bachmann told a group of local New Hampshire Republicans, "You're the state where the shot was heard around the world in Lexington and Concord." However, the first shots of the Revolutionary War were fired in Massachusetts, not the Granite State.

On Sunday morning, Bachmann suggested that the misstep didn't result from a lack of geographic or historical knowledge, but rather her use of a teleprompter while she was speaking.

"After that, I promised I would never again use President Obama's teleprompter," she said. "And I intend to keep that promise."

The AP reported at the time Bachmann made the comments in question:

Though Bachmann probably wasn't the first to confuse Concord, N.H., with Concord, Mass., her mistake was striking given her roots in the tea party movement, which takes its name from the dumping of tea into Boston Harbor by angry American colonists in December 1773, 16 months before the Battle of Lexington Green.

"I made a mistake; I should've said Massachusetts rather than New Hampshire," Bachmann said amid scrutiny on the heels of making the remarks. "We all know that there's a double standard in the media."

I got the feeling this interview between Wallace and Bachmann on FOX was fixed, Bachmann went on other networks and admitted she made a mistake, but goes on FOX to blame of "Obama's teleprompter"....i remember seeing the clip where she made that gaffe and there were no teleprompter that was ever used during that speech in NH. She's a pathological liar and FOX continues to distort just to get Obama's name  Read More...

quit while you think you're ahead. As a Republican, I need someone who is not doing politics as usual. Quit thinking about getting votes, work on the issues at hand that need fixing....otherwise quit and join Cains....

Hmm, who might I vote for? A woman who made a mistake on where a battle was fought, or a man who thinks there are 57 states. How about someone who can get unemployment under 8%?

Not that it matters here, since even though there are all sorts of moderators all my posts end up still pending. Censorship on the left?

Unlikely; I'm reading your snarky post right now! ;)

Come back in 16 months when unemployment is heading towards 8%. Just like Reagan (and Obama is more like reagan then any of these GOP loons) he got re-elected if with unemployment above 7% because the numbers were trending down. Under bush they trended up, under Obama they will be trending down. 1 million jobs gained in the last 6 months. How disingenuous you "conservatives" are, screaming that Obama hasn't cleaned up fast enough the entire mess the GOP gave him. Where were you all when the GOP stared a war under false pretenses, waged two wars, enacted two tax cuts for the rich and passed a horrendous Medicare prescription program, all without paying for any of it. Now all of sudden they whine about the deficit and use that to have the elderly, middle class and poor shoulder the burden while their rich benefactors roll in the dough.

Mish, did the President actually loan you his very own teleprompter? You would blame him for a yeast infection.

Where do Republicans come up with these uninformed, unqualified candidates? I can't take them seriously when they prove again and angain that they lack governmental and historical knowledge. Bachman is just trying to save face. Shouldn't she have been able to come up with the correct information on her own instead of relying on a teleprompter? Hello! It is one thing if my neighbor, my grandparents, or Joe Schmoe doesn't know the historical facts, but those people aren't running for congress.

Huh, not only is she a clown but she's a laying clown. Her "teleprompter malfunction" occurred at two separate occasions on two separate days.

Is she paying attention. If she is going to try to run on a national platform, continued attacks on our president will get her no where.

"After that, I promised I would never again use President Obama's teleprompter..."

Another factual error, obviously that was Palin's teleprompter.

Michele, it's not the teleprompter mistake. What the teleprompter showed was the speech that your staff had written, in that speech was the misstep. You see, it's who had written the speech that is responsible.

Michele do we have to explain everything to you? I though you were a lawyer.

Sad Part is that this She-Hammer needed a Teleprompter to know where Lexington and Concord AREN'T in the First Place....

Pathetic excuse of a human being. She and her Republican brethren have been marginalized even further by recent events.

so i guess now it is okay to criticize the President's handing of war. GTK

The most troubling thing about the alleged "misspeak" is that is purported to be a prepared speech.

She can say it was the teleprompter but she repeated that comment twice. So I'm guessing that the teleprompter didn't work two times. Really!
