Jon Stewart Rips Pakistan, Musharraf For Not Finding Osama Bin Laden (VIDEO)

Jon Stewart Pakistan

Jon Stewart admitted on Tuesday night's "Daily Show" that his initial coverage of the death of Osama bin Laden was an Id-driven, emotional catharsis. He then proceeded to do what he does best: take down hypocrisy and ambivalence in government.

While some conspiracy theorists are worried that the real Osama bin Laden wasn't killed because they haven't seen photos of his body, the real nagging question in Stewart's mind had to do with Pakistan: how did the government not know bin Laden was hiding there?

Prime Minister Yousef Raza Gilani assured people that the world's #1 terrorist was not hiding in Pakistan, but Stewart couldn't get over how bin Laden's obtrusive compound was located a mere half a mile from the Pakistani version of West Point.

"Let me put it in New York City terms. Bin Laden was on 21st and 7th Avenue -- they were on 21st and 9th Avenue. If the Pakistani military academy were Dominos, they would have been delivered to Bin Laden on foot."

On top of the proximity to military officials, Osama's compound was eight times the size of anyone else's house in the neighborhood, with barbed wire-protected walls. They were the only ones who burned their garbage, and even paid money to the local schoolchildren when their balls landed over the fence. Stewart joked they wouldn't have caught him even if he paid them with a personal check.

So who was playing dumb? Stewart turned his attention to former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf in the second part below, who repeatedly said he didn't know where bin Laden was. Yet curiously, Musharraf also said that if he was hiding him, he wouldn't have hidden him in plain sight. Stewart went off:

"So your defense is basically that the ISI is way too smart to put him in such an obvious place, but far too clueless to know he was there?"

Watch both parts of the segment below, including the time that Pres. Musharraf came on "The Daily Show" in 2006 and, as Stewart suspectes, lied to this face about bin Laden's whereabouts.

that means we didn't know he was there?? a mutually created professed psychopathic killer we were happy to help train in his psychopatholgy agasinst the Soviets as with that of Saddam againt Iran but they both suddenly went from good psychopath to bad psychopath as soon a there was a bit too much slack on their leash... or was the bad psychopathology encouraged too.. to help further our further aims in the region.

In Brazil, a city councilman pays homage to the killer bin Laden. That made popular disgust with this tribute.

If he truly admitted to an "id-driven, emotional catharsis", I have
more respect for him than ever!

Few (in fact, who) would admit that--or even have enough
self-awareness to recognize it.

Love John Stewart, but didn't think this segment was particularly intelligent or funny.

....And another thing not being reported at all is that the Pakistani media and Pakistani citizens themselves are also upset with their government about this situation. I guess that would humanize it all to cover that too much when everyone's getting into a nice, simple-minded anti-Pakistani, Pakistan is evil, let's cut all of their aid mood! Also being completely under-reported is that it seems that Pakistani intelligence had informed the US about this compound in 2009 and right up until mid-April. That they had captured another Al Qaeda agent in the area in April, and were saying and informing us that there was a high probability that there was another Al Qaeda member hiding in Abbotabad. So, they DID tell us someone was there, and we eventually used that know how and captured the person we wanted to capture! And this is the reason to cut all ties and treat an ally like an enemy? Because WE GOT THE GUY WE WERE AFTER???

....They even employed locals to do chores and work around the property, while keeping them away from the living quarters, which again could have been chalked up to conservativeness--which isn't a crime in Pakistan. And none of these people ever saw Bin Laden, so there were no sightings. As for them living lavishly in some extreme mansion--and mind you there are many of those in Pakistan, houses of the elite with all manner of goodies inside, kept out of view from the public to avoid potential for robberies--there were apparently as many as 32 people living cramped in this place at times, and there may not even have been air conditioning! Reports also indicate that the place was in a state of disrepair somewhat, with unkempt grass growing up out of the walls and windows being messed up. Hell you can see it from the pictures, it doesn't really look luxurious at all, just big. The point is this was not a very alarming situation that would have made it obvious that some super-terrorist was living there. They weren't doing anything much to call attention to themselves. The neighbors were actually shocked to hear that Bin Ladin was living there.....

part 1

comment originlly posted by a certain "frankandbeans" on another site which i found interesting.

Et tu, Jon? I'm sorry but I am frankly disgusted by all of the knee-jerk anti-Pakistani rhetoric being spewed by the US media and politicians in the wake of this situation and the revelation of the compound. All of this only reflects complete ignorance about the ground realities in Pakistan, which has been an ally of ours since the Cold War and throughout the war on terrorism. First of all, regarding the compound, there isn't the same law and order situation or bureaucratically organized way of life in Pakistan as there is in America. The police don't regularly pull people over on the high way, or go into people's houses. It's actually quite common for the wealthy in the country to construct large compound-like houses with big walls--actually most house have some sort of wall--and to live in semi-seclusion from their neighbors for a variety of reasons. Firstly, the local police is often corrupt, so people have to resort to protecting themselves. Armed guards are also common in Pakistan for the same reason...

......Some people don't mix much with neighbors because of religious conservatism, others because they are leading an extremely liberal and western lifestyle, still others may be involved in some sort of smuggler or criminal. It doesn't matter, because you don't really call the cops much. There is no 911 to dial. And similarly there aren't all of the various bureaucratic checks and balances that keep us all securely on the grid like here in America. Hell, in some parts of the country garbage isn't even collected regularly due to inefficient and poorly organized civil services. Apparently according to news reports, this compound was bought by two men posing as brothers in the aftermath of the horrific 2005 Pakistan Earthquakes, after which many people moved to the Abbotabad area, many of them having inherited money from dead relatives. They said they were buying it for their uncle. As for the people inside acting in an alarming way, apart from being a little private--which locals apparently chalked up to them being either conservative and religious or being smugglers or rich gold dealers of some kind, as mentioned above--they weren't. And they weren't apparently particularly rude to locals, giving kids money if they hit a cricket ball over their wall, letting kids play cricket on the fields near the property, even gifting a local boy a couple of rabbits as is now popularly being reported.
