Bradley Cooper: Devil In 'Paradise Lost'?

Cooper

First Posted: 05/05/11 11:06 AM ET Updated: 07/05/11 06:12 AM ET

Bradley Cooper is at his big screen best when he plays charismatic and a little bit subversive, but if he's going to nail this role, he's going to have to ramp up those qualities to biblical proportions.

Having expanded his range from raunchy comedy to action films with "The A-Team" and "Limitless," Variety reports that Cooper is now looking to go evil in an epic way, eyeing the role of Lucifer in a 3D big screen adaptation of Milton's poem "Paradise Lost."

Incidentally, the film is being helmed by Alex Proyas, director of "The Crow," and last month it was rumored that Cooper was in contention to star in a remake of the Brandon Lee cult classic -- a remake that Proyas called "ridiculous."

"Paradise Lost," is currently in pre-production, and the script has been written by, amongst others, Oscar nominee Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote two of the original "Star Wars," films, as well as "Raiders of the Lost Ark."

Whether Cooper gets the role or not remains to be seen; he will, of course, appear next in late May's "The Hangover: Part II," the sequel to the smash hit that launched his star.

the devil is the most entertaining and ambiguous character in "Paradise Lost.' Cooper would be awesome in it.

Sounds fascinating.  Milton has a very in-depth take on Lucifer and his motivations.  I find Cooper to be one of the best new actors- thought he was excellent in Hangover and Limitless.

I first heard about this from Cracked, and I thought it was a joke until I clicked the links at the bottom of the article

I would have thought the ideal role for him would be anything where he's psychopathic and/or gay.

Don't know if I would do it, bad things seem to happen to these guys who play evil characters.

What about Robert DeNiro in Cape Fear? It was just another great role for him.

That was a good movie I am thinking more like Heath Ledger, the guy falling off the props or stage in the the play in New York etc... it seems when you give in to the "dark side" strange things begin to happen.

I love Paradise Lost, so I don't really know if I can be pleased with a film version. As to Bradley Cooper, I can see him playing the devil; however, the devil is more of a sympathetic character in the poem, than an unlikeable character (the devil is not creepy in the poem). I will definitely be in the theater to see how it turns out.

This could be such a GOOD idea - "Paradise Lost" is one of the most interesting pieces of English literature but I am afraid that Hollywood is going to "improve" it...MY GOD, in 3D?!

While I like the idea of the general public getting an introduction to Milton, I cringe at how Hoolywood might twist "Paradise Lost."

There is something deeply unlikeable about Cooper. Maybe it's the absence of lips. Maybe it's that he cheated on his wife during their honeymoon. I just get a strong, skeevy, downlow vibe about him.

Seems like he used Renee to get more famous and dumped her as soon as he got more fame.
10:18 AM on 05/06/2011
She should have taken a clue from the Bridget Jones character and dumped him as soon as he began to get "distant", which was over a year ago...when one seems to be acting out of insecurity over the other's commitment, something's just not right. Here's to Renee, "just as she is"...and she's been looking good, if a bit thin.
Fanned.

They are making a fim of Paradise Lost? How many films from classic works get made and just do not live up at all..

He is just too damn hairy for me, can see why Jen didn't want to date him and just wanted to be friends.

Can see why he and every other man in Hollywood upgraded from Jen.

I am tired of this guy. Ever since Wedding Crashers, I could never like any of the characters this guy plays lol. His character in Wedding Crashers and Hangover is probably how he really is. Snobby.

I saw an interview with him @ the Actors Studio, and he was actually very humble and sweet. :-)
