Abandoned Popeyes Stinks Up East New York Neighborhood (VIDEO)

WATCH: Abandoned Popeyes Stinking Up East New York

What the cluck is going on at this abandoned Popeye's Chicken?

Heaps of dead flies and piles of garbage have turned the restaurant into a neighborhood nuisance.

East New York residents told the Daily News they have no idea why the restaurant suddenly closed down, but the overwhelming stench of garbage has ruffled a few feathers.

"I can smell it when I'm sitting inside my office, almost a block away," said Raj Parmar, a clerk at the Galaxy Motel.

The franchise owner, Inner City Chicken, is in bankruptcy and has apparently flown the coop without cleaning up. The building's owner was unaware that the Popeye's had closed until the Daily News contacted him.

The Health Department said it had not received any complaints about the establishment.
