Jerry Seinfeld: Why I Don't Watch 'Seinfeld'

popeater.com:

PopEater was lucky enough to talk to the comic genius and have him make fun of us! It was a sheer delight. Some of our takeaways from the chat: He actually wants to get old ("I don't have that Woody Allen fear of mortality"), regular, non-comedians (like this "dickhead" writer) annoy him and -- hello! -- he can't watch himself on 'Seinfeld.'

"Why I canceled seinfeld"  "Why I don't watch seinfeld"  Do we really need an article every time Jerry Seinfeld talks about Seinfeld?  The show has been off the air for 13 years!  Why do we suddenly care, 13 years later, what Seinfeld thought of his own show?

I love Sienfeld. Its one of my all time favourite shows. Even though I've seen all the episodes many times over, they can still make me laugh out loud.

But I totally get how others can hate this show. Much of the comedy comes from how ridiculously awful these characters were!! They were obnoxious, petty, shallow, self-indulgent, pretentious, vain and terribly self-deluded! But that's really what made Sienfeld tick - and tick for so long: making all those terrible human qualities very, very funny. But it wasn't totally immoral - these characters usually got their come-uppance by the end of the episode.

George Costanza is a unique character in that he managers to be really funny while being truly, truly awful! He's a terrible human being, whose wily schemes range from the incredibly petty to the downright immoral. But one of the good things about Sienfeld is that he never really gets away with it. He very rarely profits from his lies, schemes and incredible pettiness. He's a character you love to hate.

Every time I look at can or bottle, with the 5ct stamp on the bottom or a black and white cookie, I can't help but laugh, it's quite embarrassing....I need help!!

I LOVE Seinfeld!!!

"Seinfeld" could also be called "Existential Tales of Urban Horror". It revealed ugly truths about modern American urban dwellers through the use of humor. But once the jokes get old, the unpleasantness beneath becomes very difficult to watch.

Urban horror?
You don't get out much if that's what you find horrifying.

It's not that I find Seinfeld terrible, but it wasn't great. It was overdone. The plots, the number of episodes, the acting, everything about it was a bit too much. I enjoyed the acting once in awhile and maybe a couple of the jokes, but I felt impatient sitting through all those insanely stupid conversations and scenarios just for a little laugh once in awhile.

Yet I've still seen some episodes. I guess I gave that show too much of a chance. Either that, or I just like to self-punish myself.

I cannot, to this day, hear the words "marble rye" without cracking up. For that, and providing a Festavus for the rest of us, I thank you Jerry Seinfeld.

But I don't watch them any more either.

I can't stand Jerry although I like most of the other Seinfeld characters except for Elaine. I like Julia Lois Dreyfuss on "The New Adventures of Old Christine" though.

Jerry tended to be the "straight man" in this ensemble, which was weird because his charcter was the only stand up comic among them. So much of the show's comedy was generated by the other three actors - who were much more extreme characters than the "Jerry" character.

Perhaps because they have repeated every episode a 1000 times?

More like twenty episodes 1000 times.
