LOS ANGELES -- Former New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Lenny Dykstra has been indicted by a Los Angeles federal grand jury in a bankruptcy fraud case.

The 48-year-old filed for bankruptcy in 2009, and is accused of later stealing and selling property from an $18.5 million estate.

Federal prosecutors brought 13 counts against Dykstra, including bankruptcy fraud, obstruction of justice, concealing property from the bankruptcy estate and other charges.

If found guilty on all charges, Dykstra faces a maximum of 80 years in prison.

Dykstra's attorney, Mark Werksman, said the case stems from a dispute with the bankruptcy trustee and no fraud was committed.

"He didn't belong in bankruptcy, he had a problem dealing with the trustees dismantling his property and investments," said Werksman.

In the indictment, prosecutors accuse Dykstra of lying about the true value of his bankruptcy estate so he could keep profiting from it at the expense of creditors and other stakeholders.

Dykstra is also accused of moving an oven, chandeliers and other lighting fixtures out of his estate and into storage after filing for bankruptcy.

Dykstra spent 12 years in the big leagues and helped the Mets to the World Series championship in 1986. He was a three-time All-Star in the 1990s while with the Phillies.

Too bad for Dykstra..he meet the requirements: he offered the Media, Money and Manpower to make the courts want to go after him..otherewise he would have gotten away with it like so many others do every year...http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/8172171/why_bankruptcy_fraud_is_fraud_itself.html?cat=3

Didn't Jim Cramer tout Dykstra as an the next big 'up and coming investment genius?'

Turns out he was more Madoff than Buffett.

Cramer's a joke and Dykstra is a crook or versa visa.

He won't do 80 years. A wise man said "the arc of history bends at the elbow of justice", there could be karma happening. Dykstra is alleged to have stiffed or swindled numerous people, including his own family members. A housekeeper has filed a complaint that Dykstra demanded sex as part of her earning her keep. Here's a trailer for a movie (I admittedly haven't seen) that plays like a fluff piece. I somehow get the impression that when Dykstra "had money" he could be a very unpleasant person to deal with. Interviews I've seen of him make him look to be sadly dysfunctional as far as earning a living or managing the realities of life.

Bye-bye Dykstra...maybe they'll house him with Madoff and the other wall street guys! Oh wait, it's a lonely place madoff is in and no other wall street people are going anywhere but the Hamptons with their golden parachutes and Amex centurion cards.

Indicted doesn't mean he is going to jail. It just means he will be charged, correct? Lawyers? Anyone? Sometimes popular guys like him can skate by signing baseballs, community service, etc (and there's always under the table bribery.)

Popular? This guy was and is a Class A. jerk....great ball player doesn't make a nice guy...So many examples of this in professional sports.

Popular means a lot of people like him. A lot did. I didn't, but in NY, he was a very popular player and he was the spark of the 1986 Mets when he was a rookie.

He's had problems for a long time and substance abuse has been a part.

Plus, his momentary business success only fanned the flames of his enormous ego. I'd bet dollars to donuts that Len Dykstra thinks that he's fine and the entire world is out to get him.

Dykstra wasn't destitute or living on food stamps or drawing unemployment. He had the means of living a decent life. But he wanted the high life and now he's living on the edge with a possible confinement of 80 years in prison and for what?

Greed.
