WATCH: Cops Say Man Kept Alligator In Home To Attract Women

A Ford Heights man told Cook County Sheriff's police that he kept a 4-foot-long American alligator in his home because "it attracted women."

Dewayne Yarbrough, 43, of the 800 block of East 11th Place, was charged with possession of a dangerous animal after officers received a tip that he was keeping the gator in a small home tank, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

Yarbrough allegedly told police he bought it five years ago in Indiana.

"In order to keep the size of the alligator down, Yarbrough kept it in a small tank, and only fed it once a month – a meal of ten live mice," the sheriff's department said in a statement. The gators usually average between eight and fourteen feet.

Authorities were able to safely transport the alligator to the Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge. The Chicago Herpilogical Society will eventually take the animal.
