When you’re not celebrating all these new green things by putting beer-goggles on in the sun, get out and soak up some culture too.

Alexander McQueen Exhibit @ the Met
Why: Alexander McQueen hasn’t been remembered enough. At least not like this. Really
When: Fri, Sat: 9:30 AM–9 PM., Sun: 9:30 AM–5:30 PM
Where: Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 5th Ave.; 212-535-7710

The Normal Heart--an 80’s theatrical firestorm, reignited
Why: A political play in NYC is not rare. A sob-jerking political play about AIDS (which is secretly about so much more) is a rare thing indeed.
When: Fri: 8 PM; Sat: 2 PM, 8 PM; Sun: 2 PM, 8 PM
Where: The Golden Theatre, 252 W 45th St. Buy tickets.

Festival of Ideas for the New City: Get Your Geek On
Why: What geek/poet/urban planner doesn’t want to wander around eating samples of locavore cuisine, attending talks about the possibility of valet bike parking, and discussing the future of our great city.
When: So many things. Festival schedule here.
Where: “Downtown.” Check it out.

World Salsa Orchestra @ Brooklyn Bowl
Why: An eleven-piece salsa orchestra that plays indie rock covers. For Free. Enough said.
When: Sunday. Doors: 12PM, Show 6 PM. 21+ after 6 PM
Where: Brooklyn Bowl, 61 Wythe Ave., Williamsburg; 718-963-3369

NYU Tisch Graduate Film Marathon
Why: Second year film students show their work--for free. You could be seeing the next Woody Allen in his nascent period!
When: May 7 at 5pm & May 8 at 2pm.
Where: Skirball Center, 566 LaGuardia Place. 212.352.3101

Mother’s Day Picnicking in the new, sensational Azalea Gardens
Why: Don’t bring the flowers to Mom, bring Mom to the flowers. Picnic provided (with tickets)
When: Sat. and Sun. 12-6 PM
Where: New York Botanical Garden, 2900 Southern Blvd, Bronx; 718-817-8700
