Coca-Cola is turning 125!

Believe it or not America's favorite beverage has been around officially for a century and a quarter. According to the company, Dr. John S. Pemberton created the drink on on May 8, 1886 in Atlanta, Georgia, and it was first served at Jacob's Pharmacy.

Hence the anniversary.

The true nature of Coke is one of life's great mysteries. Though 'This American Life' claimed to have discovered the recipe back in February, 2011 the company has never acknowledged that this was, in fact, the correct formula. The real, "official" recipe remains a mystery.

That doesn't mean you can't still enjoy a classic Coke.

But if you're feeling adventurous, or even just a little curious, there's quite a few eccentric recipes out there that use Coca-Cola to transform ordinary dishes into something completely new. In honor of arguably the world's most famous beverage maker we've put together some of the tastiest Coca-Cola recipes you can imagine, from roasts to cake to French onion soup.

Coca Cola cannot be blamed for providing a tasty soft drink - that's the reality. People need more self-control. Europe doesn't have the obesity problem of the US.

Pepsi is launching a new soft drink meant to target the obese. Keep an eye on splitop.com!

Thanks to drinks like Coke, obesity in America has never been more of a danger to our health. Why are we celebrating again? The writer needs to have more integrity.

What about personal responsibility? People are not forced to drink sugary drinks. It's their choice.

I agree with you to a point. And believe me, I'm no conspiracy nut, but I do think there is an over abundance of sugary drinks that are cheaper, opposed to something more healthy. I see people pass up "water" for "vitamin water" packed with sugar regularly. Marketing has a lot to do with it. I wouldn't say Americans are stupid, but they are gullible.

Coke used to taste good on a hot summer day - but since they switched to HFCS in the '80s it is horrible. Mexican Coke is ok but not the same as the old school stuff I had a a kid. Seems flat or something. Brazilian Coke is a little better, though when I lived there I preferred Guarana soda.

You should try the Jones sodas. They are made with the cane sugar like Coke once was.

yeah, try Jones, then go get your injections to control your diabetes. its too sweet and too high in carbs for human consumption.

I'm no Dr. Pepper fan, but Dublin, TX still makes Dr. Pepper with pure cane sugar. It's hard to find outside of Texas however.

It would be nice to have the recipes in one place. I can't find some of them, especially the white cake.

there have been several recipe books published. I found a really great one at a garage sale, use it all the time. The Coke Sprite Cake is to die for. Try Amazon or Ebay or just google "cocacola cook books"

Coke Classic is not the same as the real coke was in the 50's.The FDA made them remove one important thing.

In 1903 the New York Tribune published an article linking cocaine with black crime and calling for legal action against Coca-Cola. Shortly thereafter Coke quietly switched from fresh to "spent" coca leaves (i.e., what's left over after the cocaine has been removed). It also stopped advertising Coke as a cure for what ails you and instead promoted it simply as a refreshing beverage. So cocaine was taken out 1903.

First, it too me four tries before the recipe for the brownies loaded correctly. Second, the picture of the beownies clearly shows that they contain nuts, but the recipe does not have nuts listed in the ingredients. Disd you ever get the impression that somebody isn't doing their job properly or that somebody doesn't know what they're doing?

The nuts are the people who nitpick over stock photos
