Kate Gosselin's Ridiculous Kentucky Derby Hat (PHOTOS)

The laws of fashion always seem to bend a bit -- or flat out go back in time -- on the day of the Kentucky Derby, but Kate Gosselin's Derby Day get-up would be criminal in any era. Or on any planet.

In an amazing feat, the reality show mom somehow outdid the horses -- who sported little men in funny costumes -- for craziest topper of the day. Her hat, reminiscent of a horse's nose and whiskers, perhaps shaded her from the sun. But, as was probably planned, did nothing to hide her from the media.

On Derby Day, Animal Kingdom won the race, but Kate Gosselin seized the photo finish.

it pisses me off so much.... she is worse than Jon... she uses her children to gain fame she is sick and i am so tired of seeing her face... she drove poor Jon nuts..... how is all this money good for the kids if she is buying herself boob jobs tummy tucks 700.00 bathing suits give me a reak people stop supporting her and her bullshit... everyone has been telling you she is nuts... that is why none of her family is in her life.... they can't stand to see these children living this life excuse me when my kids were that age they didn't make our family decisions...she says they love being in front of the camers.... no she does.... stop giving her fame we are tired of her GO AWAY KATE

It looks a bit like a Mexican beach palapa.

That said, she doesn't look horrible in it. Just a bit silly. The rest of the outfit without the hat would draw no negatives.

Not even close to a fan of this woman BUT I think the writers got it all wrong. This hat is fantastic. I hate hats, but I would wear this one.

Uh, are we looking at the same picture? I am no fan of hers, but I think she looks pretty darn good! The writer's clearly desperate to bash her, and that just comes across as pathetic.

Straight guy here, and I love women in stylish hats. She looks stunning! It is fresh and seductive, it is evocative and provocative, it is timely and timeless. Mine might have been the last generation that looked to past generations for a sense of class and style. Too bad. We have the advantage of sampling from the past, the present and the future a broad and deep variety of styles and nuance and exploration that travels beyond our own limited perspectives and conceits about the endurance of our youth. I also loved the hats worn by the women populating the stage of the royal wedding in London last week. Loved the daring and the wit and the whimsy.

I don't see anything RIDICULOUS. Not anymore than what others wore to the Kentucky Derby.
Anyways, I like when people dress up for an event where there is an expectation of a bit of the fantastical.
