Roger Hargreaves's Birthday Honored With 'Little Men,' 'Little Miss' Google Logos

Google Doodles A-Plenty For 'Little Miss Sunshine' Creator

Beloved British children's author Roger Hargreaves, creator of the "Little Men" and "Little Miss" series, would have turned 76 on May 9.

Google celebrates the Hargreaves' birthday with a colorful cycle of doodles depicting several of Hargreaves' animated characters, including Little Miss Sunshine, Mr. Tickle and Mr. Messy.

Hargreaves conceived his celebrated "Little Men" stories while working in advertising in 1971. The stories were an almost immediate hit and, by 1975, spawned a TV series. The "Little Miss" series followed in 1981 and eventually moved to TV.

Though Hargreaves died in 1988, his work remains widely read by children and adults. One character, Mr. Bump, even has its own iPhone app.

Rather than post a single doodle in honor of Hargreaves, Google has chosen 16 characters to feature on the Google.com home page. Check out a few of the characters (below). Which others have you seen?
