Then why did the Dept. of Education cut all funding for school libraries, yet continue to push useless and unproven testing? The testing companies benefit and the students lose a valuable tool (libraries) to help them succeed in life.

Yesterday, while on the reference desk, a group of students came to the library to do some local history research for a documentary they are doing in conjunction with the local historical society. Obviously, our library was the best location for this type of research. They had already done lots of internet searching, but knew that much of the source material was not online. I also sent them to the college library, which has federal government documents.

Internet searching cannot compare to a library and it's voluminous invaluable resources.  Libraries rock!
